Scaling up hydrogen and CO₂-capture infrastructure requires vacuum systems capable of operating reliably under demanding industrial conditions. The Busch Group — one of the world’s largest vacuum-technology manufacturers — is presenting a wide portfolio of vacuum, overpressure and leak-detection solutions under its Busch Vacuum Solutions and Pfeiffer Vacuum + Fab Solutions brands. These offerings support hydrogen production, storage and utilization as well as CO₂ separation and compression.

In hydrogen production and storage environments, vacuum and overpressure equipment, along with advanced leak-detection systems, are essential for ensuring efficiency, safety and system integrity. Busch and Pfeiffer offer solutions spanning the entire hydrogen value chain, ensuring proper gas movement and maintaining pressure stability.

Pfeiffer’s leak detectors and leak-test modules are built for electrolyzers, storage vessels, pipelines and fuel-cell components. These systems identify leaks, verify the tightness of parts such as bipolar plates, and comply with regulatory gas-tightness standards. Designed for robust use and integration, they support fast testing cycles and can be adapted for different processes. Portable units are also available for field testing of tanks and pipelines.

Busch’s oil-free MINK MH hydrogen recirculation blower ensures clean and stable gas flow inside fuel-cell stacks by redirecting unused hydrogen back into the system. This increases energy efficiency and extends stack lifespan. The blower supports fuel cells up to 45 kW, and systems up to 60 kW at lower recirculation levels. Multiple blowers can be deployed together for higher-capacity stacks. Its compact size enables direct installation in fuel-cell modules, and its intelligent variable-speed drive adjusts flow automatically to match demand.

In carbon-capture processes, vacuum systems determine how effectively CO₂ is extracted, purified and prepared for reuse or storage. Busch’s MINK MW claw vacuum pump provides continuous vacuum generation for CO₂ removal and regeneration, offering dry, energy-efficient and economical operation. For monitoring and control, Pfeiffer’s GSD 350 mass spectrometers deliver real-time readings of process-gas composition, ensuring accurate measurement and optimized capture efficiency. The companies also supply complete vacuum and overpressure packages suitable for laboratory setups, pilot plants or full-scale industrial installations.
