Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a leading player in India’s oil and gas sector and a Fortune Global 500 company, has entered into a strategic partnership with Reliance BP Mobility Limited (RBML) to accelerate growth in City Gas Distribution (CGD) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) markets. This collaboration is a key step under BPCL’s Project Aspire, which aims to drive sustainable energy solutions and support India’s evolving energy landscape.
The partnership agreement was signed by Rouf Khan, Chief General Manager – Projects & Marketing (Gas), BPCL, and Sanjay Pandita, Head – Gaseous Fuels, RBML. The event was attended by senior leaders including Subhankar Sen (Director – Marketing, BPCL), Rahul Tandon (Business Head – Gas, BPCL), Sarthak Behuria (Chairman, RBML), and Akshay Wadhwa (CEO, RBML).
Highlighting the collaboration, Rahul Tandon emphasized, “Ensuring delivery of cleaner gas to end users is vital in advancing India’s gas economy. This partnership supports our shared goal of expanding access to cleaner fuels.” Akshay Wadhwa added, “RBML’s network attracts significant customer traffic, which will help boost CNG usage and contribute positively toward India’s vision for a gas-based economy.”
Together, BPCL and RBML are working to provide affordable, cleaner fuel options across the country, aligning with the government’s target to increase natural gas’s share in India’s energy mix from 6% to 15% by 2030. This partnership demonstrates their mutual dedication to fostering sustainable transportation and energy practices.
BPCL is one of India’s top oil and gas companies, involved in refining crude oil and marketing petroleum products. Holding Maharatna status, BPCL operates refineries in Mumbai, Kochi, and Bina with a total capacity of 35.3 million metric tonnes per annum. Its extensive marketing infrastructure includes over 23,500 fuel stations, 6,200 LPG distributorships, and facilities for aviation fuel, lubricants, and pipelines. BPCL is also expanding its electric vehicle charging network with more than 6,500 stations.
With a commitment to sustainability, BPCL aims to become a Net Zero Energy Company by 2040 for its direct emissions. The company supports community initiatives focused on education, water conservation, skill development, healthcare, and social welfare, guided by its mission of ‘Energising Lives.’
Jio-bp, the joint venture between Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and bp, combines Reliance’s widespread reach and digital platform with bp’s expertise in fuels, lubricants, and low-carbon mobility. Besides conventional fuels, Jio-bp offers alternative energy solutions such as EV charging and compressed biogas. Its aviation fuel brand ‘air bp-Jio’ is a major supplier in India, and the ‘Jio-bp Fuel4U’ service leads in on-demand diesel delivery. Jio-bp also operates the UK-based Wildbean Café outside traditional fuel stations, enhancing customer experience.
