Biocon Limited, a global biopharmaceutical company focused on affordable healthcare solutions, has reinforced its commitment to improving diabetes care in Malaysia following the award of multiple insulin supply contracts to its long-standing partner, Duopharma Biotech Berhad, by Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MoH). The contracts, valued at more than MYR 225 million, cover the supply of recombinant human insulin, insulin glargine and insulin aspart to Malaysia’s public healthcare system. Under the agreements, Biocon Sdn. Bhd., the company’s Malaysia-based subsidiary, will manufacture and supply the insulin products to Duopharma for nationwide distribution, ensuring continued availability of essential diabetes therapies for patients across the country.

The awards include a three-year contract valued at approximately MYR 155.27 million for human insulin, along with two additional two-year contracts worth around MYR 18 million for insulin glargine and MYR 52.5 million for insulin aspart. Malaysia remains a strategic hub for Biocon’s global insulin operations. The company operates one of Asia’s largest integrated insulin manufacturing facilities in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, which serves both domestic and international markets. The facility enables large-scale production of a broad portfolio of insulin products while supporting Malaysia’s healthcare priorities and pharmaceutical manufacturing ambitions.

Shreehas Tambe, CEO and Managing Director of Biocon Limited, said the latest contracts underscore the company’s long-term commitment to enhancing access to affordable insulin therapies. He noted that Biocon’s Malaysian manufacturing operations have played a pivotal role in supplying high-quality insulin to patients locally and globally while addressing the increasing demand for diabetes care.

Malaysia faces a significant diabetes burden, with an estimated 4.75 million people living with the condition. Through their collaboration, Biocon and Duopharma have worked to improve treatment access and strengthen the reliability of insulin supply across the public healthcare system.

Since the partnership began in 2016, more than 120 million insulin cartridges have been supplied to Ministry of Health facilities, benefiting over 450,000 patients nationwide. The collaboration has contributed to reducing dependence on imported insulin while enhancing affordability and supply stability.

Beyond diabetes management, the two companies have expanded their cooperation into oncology and ophthalmology, broadening patient access to advanced biologic therapies in Malaysia. With these new contracts, Biocon and Duopharma continue to support national healthcare objectives by strengthening local pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities, ensuring medicine security and improving access to critical treatments for patients across Malaysia.
