BEML Limited has unveiled the BH60-EV, an indigenously designed and developed 60-ton electric dump truck for mining and infrastructure applications. The vehicle was unveiled at BEML’s Mysuru Complex and marks the company’s latest step in developing electric mobility solutions for heavy-duty industrial operations.
The BH60-EV was virtually launched by Shantanu Roy, CMD, BEML Limited, in the presence of the company’s functional directors, senior officers and employees. Designed and developed at the Mysuru Complex, the BH60-EV combines a high payload capacity with an electric powertrain designed for demanding mining and infrastructure operations. The vehicle produces zero tailpipe emissions during operation and is aimed at supporting the transition towards cleaner and more efficient heavy equipment.
The electric dump truck is powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) integrated with a rugged gearbox and a 1,000 kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack. The powertrain is designed to provide the torque and power required for heavy-duty operations.
The BH60-EV has a payload capacity of 54,500 kg with a rock body and a volumetric body capacity of 36.4 cubic metres. Its high tractive effort and instant torque are designed to support operations on gradients and other demanding work sites. The electric platform is designed to deliver 40% to 60% lower operating costs compared with conventional diesel-powered equipment, depending on operating conditions. BEML estimates that each vehicle could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 130 tonnes annually, subject to operating conditions.
The vehicle also focuses on operator safety and comfort. Its spacious cabin features an ergonomic design and incorporates a Roll-Over Protective Structure, emergency steering and sealed oil-cooled disc brakes. BEML has also developed a complete charging station solution for its electric heavy-duty vehicles. The charging system is designed to work with site electrical infrastructure and can be scaled for fleet operations. The integrated approach is intended to help mining and infrastructure operators introduce electric heavy equipment along with the required charging facilities.
Speaking at the launch, Shantanu Roy, CMD, BEML Limited, said, “The BH60-EV marks a significant milestone in BEML’s journey towards next-generation electric mobility for heavy industry. It demonstrates our capability to develop high-capacity electric equipment tailored to the demanding requirements of mining and infrastructure. With indigenous engineering, advanced battery technology and a strong focus on performance, safety and sustainability, we are creating solutions that can support both industrial productivity and the transition towards a cleaner future.”
The BH60-EV expands BEML’s electric vehicle portfolio following the launch of its 35-ton electric dump truck on April 10, 2026. The company is continuing to develop electric and sustainable equipment for heavy-duty applications in India and international markets.
