Baker Hughes has secured new equipment and service contracts to support the expansion of Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility in Louisiana, strengthening its long-standing partnership with one of the world’s largest LNG producers. The contracts cover the first phase of the Sabine Pass Expansion Project, including the new Train 7 liquefaction unit and a boil-off gas re-liquefaction unit. The project is expected to increase the facility’s LNG production capacity by more than six million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
As part of the project, Baker Hughes will supply seven PGT25+ G4 gas turbines that will power 15 centrifugal compressors used in the liquefaction process. The advanced equipment is designed to improve plant performance, enhance reliability and support higher production levels.
The liquefaction equipment contracts have been awarded by Bechtel Energy, while Cheniere has placed separate orders with Baker Hughes for gas turbine technology upgrades across the Sabine Pass facility. Under the agreement, Baker Hughes will upgrade the entire fleet of installed PGT25+ G4 aeroderivative gas turbines at the LNG terminal over the next four years. The upgrades are expected to increase turbine power output, improve operating efficiency and support higher LNG production across the existing facility.
Sabine Pass currently has an LNG production capacity of around 30 MTPA. Once the Train 7 expansion, boil-off gas re-liquefaction unit and turbine upgrades are completed, the facility is expected to add more than 6 MTPA of additional production capacity.
Lorenzo Simonelli, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Baker Hughes, said the company is committed to helping customers expand LNG production through advanced equipment, digital technologies and long-term service support. He said Baker Hughes offers integrated solutions that help accelerate project execution, improve plant reliability and deliver long-term operational value.
Jack Fusco, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cheniere, said the company is pleased to continue its long-standing relationship with Baker Hughes, which has supported the development of Sabine Pass into one of the world’s largest LNG export facilities. He said the latest equipment orders and technology upgrades will improve efficiency and optimise operations across the company’s LNG platform.
The expansion project highlights continued investment in LNG infrastructure as global demand for cleaner energy continues to grow. By combining advanced gas turbine technology, high-performance compression systems and long-term maintenance services, Baker Hughes will play an important role in supporting the next phase of growth at Sabine Pass.
The latest awards further strengthen Baker Hughes’ position as a leading supplier of equipment and services for the global LNG industry while supporting Cheniere’s plans to increase production capacity and improve operational performance at one of its flagship export terminals.
