Axiro Semiconductor Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited, has made a strategic investment in ThinSiC Inc., a Silicon Valley-based semiconductor company developing silicon carbide (SiC) power devices. Axiro will serve as the lead investor in ThinSiC’s latest financing round and has entered into a long-term commercial partnership with the company to support the development and commercialisation of its SiC technology.
The investment expands Axiro’s semiconductor portfolio beyond its core capabilities in radio frequency (RF), millimetre-wave (mmWave) and advanced connectivity integrated circuit design. The company is also building capabilities in power electronics, where SiC devices are being developed for applications requiring high voltage and efficient power conversion.
Potential applications include rail traction, industrial drives, power transmission and grid infrastructure. SiC is being considered as an alternative to conventional silicon in power electronics, although its wider adoption has been constrained by device costs. Axiro said ThinSiC’s technology addresses cost and scalability challenges associated with high-voltage SiC devices. Through the partnership, the companies intend to advance the technology towards commercial deployment.
Dr Naveen Yanduru, Chief Executive Officer of Axiro Semiconductor, said the investment reflected the company’s view that SiC would play an important role in future power electronics. He said the partnership would combine ThinSiC’s device technology with Axiro’s semiconductor capabilities and the industrial presence of CG Power.
CG Power has an established presence in power transmission and industrial infrastructure, providing a potential commercial channel for the technology in India and other markets. TS. Ravi, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ThinSiC, said Axiro’s semiconductor expertise and access to CG Power’s industrial network could help accelerate the commercialisation of the company’s SiC devices.
ThinSiC is developing a low-cost, high-voltage SiC power device platform for electrification, power transmission and industrial systems. Its technology is intended to address applications where power efficiency, voltage handling and overall system costs are important considerations.
Axiro is headquartered in Bengaluru and is building high-performance semiconductor capabilities focused on RF, mmWave and advanced connectivity IC design. Its expansion into power electronics is part of a broader effort to develop capabilities across adjacent semiconductor markets.
