Axiro Powers India’s Semiconductor Growth with New Chip Design Facility

Axiro Semiconductor Pvt Ltd has officially unveiled its advanced fabless semiconductor design centre in Whitefield, Bengaluru. As the first large-scale fabless semiconductor company in India, Axiro is making waves by shipping millions of integrated circuits (ICs) monthly to global tech leaders like Ericsson, Nokia, Hughes, and Siemens. The company’s growth is expected to drive progress in high-impact industries such as 5G/6G, defence, satellite communications, and industrial IoT.

Reinforcing its vision, CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd, part of the Murugappa Group, has made a $36 million investment in Axiro. This move marks CG Power’s official entry into the semiconductor design field and positions the Murugappa Group at the forefront of India’s goal to become a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing.

The inauguration event was graced by notable figures from the industry and government, including Sushil Pal, CEO of ISM; Vellayan Subbiah, Chairman of CG Power and Industrial Solutions (Axiro’s parent company), and Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company; R R Tiwary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY); Gauraw Srivastava, Department of Telecommunications (DoT); Dr Naveen Yanduru, CEO of Axiro Semiconductor; and Anshumaan Ravi Swaminathan, Non-Executive Director of Axiro Semiconductor.

Axiro’s fabless model is focused on chip design and intellectual property creation, partnering with global foundries for production. This approach enables rapid scaling, cost efficiency, and high-performance chips.

The new facility in Bengaluru is designed as a modern innovation hub, featuring advanced design labs, collaborative spaces, and infrastructure to accommodate growth, including plans to double the R&D team by 2026. The company is also dedicated to sustainable operations, with a strategic environmental, social, and governance (ESG) roadmap in progress.

Sushil Pal, CEO of ISM, underscored the national importance of domestic semiconductor design during the inauguration. He stated, “Axiro is a major milestone for India’s semiconductor ambitions, showcasing the vision of self-reliance with global relevance.”

Vellayan Subbiah, Chairman of CG Power and Industrial Solutions, emphasized the importance of collaboration with technology partners and academic institutions to drive innovation. He highlighted Axiro’s commitment to breakthrough innovations and its focus on AI, automotive, and IoT solutions, accelerating India’s integration into the global semiconductor value chain.

Axiro Semiconductor Private Limited is a newly formed subsidiary of CG Power and Industrial Solutions, part of the Murugappa Group’s diversified business portfolio. Established in December 2024, the company is strategically entering India’s growing semiconductor sector, with plans to develop specialized chip solutions for industrial and technological applications.
