Atria University has unveiled Atria Beyonder Labs (ABL), a new applied innovation and venture platform aimed at converting academic research into practical technologies, industry solutions, and scalable startups. The facility was inaugurated at the university’s Bengaluru campus by Priyank Kharge, Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology and Biotechnology, Government of Karnataka.

ABL begins operations with the incubation of nine early-stage startups working across diverse sectors. These include TurboTech Aircraft, which is developing autonomous logistics aircraft; Aventiq Innovations, focused on biomedical waste safety; Hypower Green Energy Technologies, working on green hydrogen and energy systems; CarbonCraft Design, which develops carbon-negative materials; and OceanToOasis, specialising in desalination technologies.

The platform is further supported by A-Collective, Atria University’s global innovation network that brings together researchers, industry partners, and investors. Through this network, startups gain access to international collaborators, early industry validation, and faster routes to commercial deployment.

Speaking at the launch, Priyank Kharge noted that Karnataka’s innovation ecosystem has grown steadily by strengthening links between academia, industry, and startups. He added that initiatives such as Atria Beyonder Labs play a key role in moving research beyond laboratories into real-world applications while reinforcing the state’s position in applied science and deep technology.

University-led incubation has become increasingly important to India’s startup ecosystem. According to a report by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), startups emerging from structured incubation programmes show success rates between 70 and 87 per cent, highlighting the role institutions play in improving market readiness and long-term viability.

Dr Sunder Raju, Chancellor of Atria University, said the launch reflects the university’s focus on building globally relevant innovation capabilities from India. He emphasised that as the country strengthens its position in advanced technology and next-generation manufacturing, platforms like ABL will be essential in translating research into competitive, real-world solutions aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

ABL has been created to bridge the gap between academic research, industry needs, and on-ground deployment. While universities generate significant scientific output, pathways for validation, piloting, and commercialisation often remain limited. ABL provides a structured environment for research to progress from discovery to early adoption in industry-linked settings.

The lab will operate across high-impact areas such as life sciences and biomanufacturing, clean energy and mobility, artificial intelligence, climate technologies, and advanced engineering systems, with a strong emphasis on solving real-world industrial and societal challenges.

Based in Bengaluru, Atria University is India’s first Liberal STEM University, combining rigorous STEM education with liberal learning. Built in alignment with the National Education Policy 2020, the university offers project-based, transdisciplinary degree programmes across emerging domains including digital technologies, life sciences, energy sciences, sustainability, and mobility.

The academic model emphasises flexibility, allowing students to begin with a foundation year before choosing their majors. Learning pathways are personalised and multidisciplinary, with a strong focus on real-world exposure through industry-led workshops, internships, and applied projects.
