Hindustan Zinc Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the district administration of Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, for the development of the Gora Badal Sports Stadium. The project aims to strengthen grassroots sports infrastructure, encourage physical fitness, and create structured opportunities for youth participation and talent development across the region.
Under the agreement, Hindustan Zinc will support the design and phased execution of the stadium in line with modern sports facility standards and long-term community needs. The development will include a sports stadium with a jogging and training track suitable for practice sessions, tournaments, and recreational use.
Arun Misra, CEO and Whole-time Director of Hindustan Zinc, said the initiative reflects the company’s belief in the transformative power of sports. He added that the stadium is intended to create an environment where young people can explore their abilities while contributing to community well-being and long-term youth development.
The project scope includes outdoor sports facilities such as a football field and jogging and walking tracks, along with essential infrastructure. Planned amenities include separate changing rooms for boys and girls, sanitation facilities, parking areas, security systems, CCTV surveillance, high-mast lighting, solar-powered electrification, rainwater harvesting systems, approach road development, and upgraded boundary walls with controlled entry and exit points.
Once completed, the stadium is expected to promote health and wellness through increased community participation while also helping identify and nurture sporting talent at the grassroots level. It will function as a shared community space, providing rural communities access to organised sports in a safe and professionally developed setting.
The development aligns with Hindustan Zinc’s broader sports initiatives, including its long-standing focus on grassroots football and its partnership with the All-India Football Federation through the Zinc Football Academy. The academy follows a structured approach to athlete development and professional training.
Hindustan Zinc has also played a role in expanding sports participation nationwide through residential football academies for boys and girls, including India’s first residential football academy exclusively for girls. These programmes combine professional training, education, and technology-driven performance development.
With a sports legacy spanning nearly four decades, beginning with the Mohan Kumar Mangalam football stadium at Zawar in 1976, Hindustan Zinc has consistently supported multiple sports disciplines, including football, athletics, kabaddi, and volleyball. Initiatives such as the Vedanta Zinc City Half Marathon have further strengthened community engagement, with the company’s sports programmes positively impacting close to 30,000 people.
