Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable transportation, has announced a new partnership with Operation Lifesaver Inc. (OLI), a leading nonprofit focused on rail safety education in the United States. Since 1972, OLI has worked tirelessly to reduce collisions, injuries, and fatalities at railroad crossings and along tracks through public awareness programs nationwide. This collaboration highlights a shared dedication to protecting communities and promoting safe behaviors near railways.
Each year, over 2,300 people in North America are seriously injured or lose their lives at rail crossings or on railroad tracks. In the U.S., a train strikes a person or vehicle approximately every three hours. Rail Safety Week, observed from September 15 to 21, unites industry leaders, safety groups, community organizations, and first responders to spread vital safety messages under the See Tracks? Think Train® campaign.
“At Alstom, safety is at the core of everything we do—from designing and delivering quality rail systems to supporting the people who use and live near them,” said Tania Fauchon, Head of Railway Safety at Alstom. “Our partnership with Operation Lifesaver reflects this commitment. By engaging directly with communities through education and outreach, we aim to help prevent accidents and foster a culture of safety throughout the rail network.” More than 50 Alstom employees in North America have volunteered to become authorized Operation Lifesaver volunteers, bringing safety education to their communities firsthand.
“Operation Lifesaver is excited to welcome Alstom’s dedicated volunteers to our mission of raising awareness and saving lives,” said Rachel Maleh, Executive Director of Operation Lifesaver. “Their involvement strengthens our efforts to reduce tragedies on and near tracks.”
“As North America’s largest private passenger rail operator, we prioritize the safety of our employees, passengers, and neighbors,” added Josee Ouellet, Vice President of Services, North America at Alstom. “We are proud of our team members who volunteer their time and energy to this critical cause. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in rail safety and community well-being.”
