Akona Process Solutions has announced the launch of its Rotary Batch Mixer, a new addition to its mixing and blending portfolio designed to deliver uniform blend quality, gentle material handling, and efficient cleaning for dry bulk processing applications. The Rotary Batch Mixer introduces a gravity-driven tumbling mechanism that replaces traditional mixing methods relying on paddles, ribbons, or internal agitators.
This low-shear approach reduces particle degradation, limits segregation, and minimizes heat generation, while achieving consistent blends within shorter cycle times. The system is particularly effective for applications involving small or trace ingredient inclusion, where uniformity is critical.
A key design feature of the mixer is its shaft-free internal configuration. By eliminating internal shafts, seals, and submerged mechanical components, the system significantly reduces maintenance requirements and potential points of failure. This streamlined design also enables faster and more thorough cleaning between batches, supporting improved hygiene standards and consistent batch-to-batch performance.
According to Matt Banowetz, Vice President of Engineering and Product Development at Akona Process Solutions, the equipment has been engineered to address common operational challenges associated with conventional batch mixers. He noted that the use of controlled vessel rotation combined with internal mixing flights allows for reliable blending while reducing mechanical complexity, cleaning time, and product loss.
The Rotary Batch Mixer is suitable for handling a wide range of materials, including powders, granules, pellets, and fragile or friable substances. It is designed for use across multiple industries such as food processing, bakery, nutraceuticals, coffee, spices, agriculture, plastics, and chemical manufacturing.
To support diverse operational requirements, the mixer is available in multiple capacities and can be customised with optional features. These include liquid spray systems for coating or flavour application, load cells for batch weight verification, dust-tight inlet and discharge valves, and programmable logic controller (PLC)-ready systems for integration into automated production environments.
Built on established Marion mixing technology, the Rotary Batch Mixer combines durable construction with a simplified mechanical design to ensure dependable performance and reduced downtime. With this launch, Akona Process Solutions aims to provide manufacturers with a practical and efficient solution for achieving reliable blending results, improving operational efficiency, and simplifying maintenance in dry bulk processing operations.
