Agratas, the Tata group’s global battery business, announced continued momentum in the construction of its upcoming battery cell manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat. The project has reached a key stage of development, with the structural steel framework progressing rapidly toward completion. Spanning 320 acres, the facility will support an initial production capacity of 20 GWh per year, representing a major investment in India’s clean energy future and a significant addition to the nation’s advanced battery manufacturing capabilities.

More than 2,000 construction personnel and over 700 vendor staff are currently engaged on-site, working across shifts to accelerate project execution. Once operational, the facility will play an essential role in building a robust domestic battery ecosystem, supporting India’s transition to cleaner mobility and energy solutions.

Speaking on the ongoing development, Anand Sodha, Vice President – Supply Chain at Agratas, said the pace of construction reflects the commitment of teams and partners working to bring the company’s vision to life. “Each milestone we achieve at Sanand moves us closer to establishing one of the country’s most advanced manufacturing facilities. The dedication on the ground is driving the project forward with tremendous energy,” he noted.

Agratas is collaborating with Tata Projects Limited and Tata Consulting Engineers to deliver the facility with world-class engineering and execution standards. Rahul Sharma, Strategic Business Unit Head – Urban Built Form at Tata Projects, highlighted that the company’s experience in large-scale industrial construction enables the delivery of sophisticated manufacturing facilities efficiently while integrating sustainable practices into every stage of the build.

In addition to construction progress, Agratas is developing an advanced and resilient supply chain to support the facility’s long-term operations. The company is implementing a fully integrated sales and operations planning system that synchronizes demand, supply, and inventory movement across domestic and international markets. A dedicated Supply Chain Control Tower will provide real-time visibility of material flows, supported by climate-controlled warehouses and specialized storage infrastructure.

“Our supply chain is being engineered for agility, transparency, and global performance standards,” Mr Sodha added. “We are integrating automation, digital systems, and sustainable logistics to ensure efficiency at scale and contribute meaningfully to India’s clean energy mission.”

Agratas continues to expand its talent base as the facility advances, welcoming skilled professionals who want to contribute to a transformative national manufacturing initiative.
