Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) has announced a strategic partnership with Samvardhana Motherson International Limited to support the development of a large-scale automotive manufacturing facility in Abu Dhabi, further strengthening the emirate’s position as a global centre for advanced manufacturing and automotive supply chains. The project will be developed within Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi (KEZAD) and is expected to serve as a major regional manufacturing and export hub for automotive components catering to both Motherson’s global operations and third-party original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

According to ADIO, the partnership aligns with Abu Dhabi’s broader strategy of accelerating industrial diversification, strengthening high-value supply chains, and enhancing the emirate’s role as a globally competitive manufacturing destination. The integrated manufacturing facility will be developed in multiple phases on an approximately 87,652 square metre land parcel, with construction activities already underway.

Once operational, the facility is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs spanning engineering, manufacturing, technical, operational, and corporate functions. The project is also expected to support Emiratisation initiatives by creating opportunities for national talent development, advanced industrial training, and long-term capability building within high-value manufacturing sectors.

ADIO stated that the partnership reflects Abu Dhabi’s continued focus on enabling industrial growth through a coordinated ecosystem combining infrastructure, logistics connectivity, and investor support services. The facility will benefit from Abu Dhabi’s integrated logistics infrastructure, including connectivity through AD Ports Group, enabling efficient access to regional and international markets while strengthening supply chain integration across the automotive sector. The new manufacturing base is expected to contribute to the expansion of non-oil exports while supporting localisation of advanced manufacturing activities and strengthening the emirate’s industrial capabilities.

Motherson, one of the world’s leading automotive component manufacturers, operates across multiple global markets supplying products and systems to major automotive manufacturers. The company’s diversified portfolio spans wiring harnesses, mirrors, polymer products, lighting systems, modules, precision components, and integrated automotive solutions.

Industry analysts note that the Middle East continues to emerge as an increasingly attractive destination for advanced manufacturing investments, supported by infrastructure development, strategic geographic positioning, and growing emphasis on industrial diversification. The Abu Dhabi government has continued investing heavily in manufacturing, logistics, and industrial ecosystems as part of its long-term economic diversification strategy aimed at reducing dependence on hydrocarbons and expanding knowledge-driven sectors.

The partnership with Motherson is expected to further strengthen Abu Dhabi’s automotive manufacturing ecosystem while enhancing the region’s participation in global supply chains serving Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. With construction already progressing, the facility is anticipated to become a significant contributor to regional manufacturing growth, export activity, and industrial employment generation over the coming years. The development also reinforces Abu Dhabi’s positioning as a strategic gateway for global manufacturers seeking integrated industrial infrastructure, advanced logistics connectivity, and access to rapidly growing regional markets.
