Adani Green Calls for Faster Electrification to Power Global Energy Transition

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has called for accelerated electrification and greater deployment of renewable energy integrated with storage technologies to strengthen global energy security, improve affordability, and support sustainable economic growth. The company made the call while hosting the inaugural Adani Green Energy Dialogue in partnership with the Energy Transitions Commission (ETC) at the Science Museum in London during London Climate Action Week.

The event brought together policymakers, investors, business leaders, technology experts, and climate specialists to discuss strategies for advancing the clean energy transition through supportive policies, investment, and infrastructure development. Addressing the gathering, Sagar Adani, Executive Director of Adani Green Energy Limited, said electrification has emerged as one of the most effective solutions to simultaneously address energy security, affordability, and sustainability challenges.

He noted that renewable energy combined with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) can deliver reliable, affordable, and round-the-clock clean electricity. He added that Adani Green is pursuing this integrated approach as it works towards achieving 50 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, anchored by the company’s large-scale renewable energy development at Khavda in Gujarat.

The discussions highlighted the increasing importance of resilient electricity systems as countries experience rising electricity demand driven by urbanisation, digitalisation, artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, data centres, and expanding industrial activity. Participants observed that long-term energy security will depend on large-scale investments in renewable power generation, storage systems, and modern transmission infrastructure.

The programme featured two high-level sessions chaired by Lord Adair Turner, Co-chair of the Energy Transitions Commission, and Nigel Topping, Co-founder of Ambition Loop and Chair of the UK Climate Change Committee. Senior representatives from Octopus Energy, Schneider Electric, the Climate Bonds Initiative, the Green Finance Institute, and the Adani Group participated in the discussions.

Lord Turner stated that clean electrification remains the most effective pathway for building zero-emission economies, with many sectors already benefiting from economically viable electrification technologies. Nigel Topping highlighted that while renewable power investments continue to rise, the greatest environmental and economic gains will come from replacing fossil fuel-based energy across transport, industry, and buildings through electrification supported by flexible power systems.

The dialogue concluded that achieving climate objectives will require policy certainty, sustained private investment, and faster deployment of renewable generation, energy storage, and transmission networks. Participants agreed that storage technologies will play a central role in ensuring dependable clean power while enabling higher integration of renewable energy into national grids.

The event concluded with a visit to the Energy Revolution: The Adani Green Energy Gallery at London’s Science Museum, which showcases technologies shaping the future of low-carbon energy systems. Since opening in March 2024, the gallery has attracted more than one million visitors, reflecting growing public interest in clean energy innovation.

Adani Group has committed more than US$100 billion towards energy transition and related infrastructure, spanning renewable energy, energy storage, transmission, green hydrogen, digital infrastructure, and emerging low-carbon technologies to support the transition to a sustainable energy future.
