Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL), the flagship company of the Adani Group, has entered into a long-term partnership with France-based clean technology company Dioxycle to develop and scale low-carbon chemical manufacturing in India using captured carbon dioxide and renewable electricity. The collaboration will begin with the establishment of a pilot facility at an Adani Group site to manufacture formic acid, an industrial chemical widely used in textiles, agriculture, leather processing and manufacturing.
The project will use captured carbon dioxide as a feedstock together with renewable power, demonstrating an alternative production pathway with lower carbon emissions. Following successful validation of the technology, the partners intend to expand the initiative for commercial-scale production.
The partnership combines Dioxycle’s electrically driven chemical manufacturing technology with Adani Group’s renewable energy capabilities, infrastructure platform and project execution expertise. The companies aim to develop a scalable and commercially viable model for producing essential chemicals while reducing dependence on conventional fossil fuel-based manufacturing processes.
Commenting on the partnership, Jeet Adani, Director, Adani Group, said, “The pilot project marks an important milestone in demonstrating how renewable energy and carbon capture can be integrated to manufacture industrial chemicals. Working with Dioxycle, we aim to create a sustainable production model that converts captured carbon into valuable products while supporting the transition to lower-carbon manufacturing.”
Dr Sarah Lamaison, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Dioxycle, said, “India offers significant opportunities for deploying advanced clean manufacturing technologies, supported by its renewable energy resources and industrial ecosystem. Our collaboration with Adani brings together technological innovation and large-scale execution capabilities to develop a competitive approach to low-carbon chemical production.”
Beyond formic acid, the two companies will evaluate opportunities to manufacture additional chemicals used across sectors including energy, materials, packaging and industrial manufacturing. Many of these products are currently produced using fossil-based feedstocks, creating opportunities to reduce emissions through alternative production technologies.
For Adani Enterprises, the initiative represents an expansion into the chemicals sector, complementing its existing portfolio in infrastructure, renewable energy and emerging industries. The collaboration also reflects growing industrial cooperation between India and Europe in the field of clean technologies and advanced manufacturing.
Adani Enterprises Limited is the flagship company of the Adani Group and focuses on developing infrastructure and emerging businesses across sectors including airports, roads, data centres, green hydrogen, mining, metals and primary industries. The company has incubated several businesses that have subsequently become independently listed entities.
Founded in 2021 and headquartered in Paris, Dioxycle develops electrically powered chemical manufacturing technologies that use carbon dioxide emissions and other readily available feedstocks to produce essential industrial chemicals. The company operates in France and the United States and is advancing its technology toward commercial deployment.
