Vedanta Aluminium has introduced a first-of-its-kind AI-powered humanoid assistant, ALAISA (Aluminium AI Support Agent), at Bharat Aluminium Company Limited, marking a significant step in the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies in India’s metals sector. Currently operational at BALCO’s smelter complex, ALAISA serves as an on-ground training, knowledge, and decision-support interface for shop-floor teams. The system combines conversational AI with plant-specific operational intelligence to provide real-time guidance on standard operating procedures, maintenance practices, and critical safety protocols directly at the point of use.

The deployment is designed to strengthen workforce capability while enhancing operational efficiency and safety in high-intensity industrial environments. By embedding AI into daily operations, the company is enabling faster access to technical knowledge and improving decision-making during live processes.

Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, stated that digitalisation is transforming the manufacturing landscape and that integrating advanced technologies into core operations is central to the company’s strategy. He noted that ALAISA reflects a commitment to building intelligent systems that complement human expertise, improve process reliability, and enhance safety outcomes.

Since its introduction, ALAISA has been used to train over 100 employees through structured learning modules. The system offers real-time query resolution and includes built-in assessment tools that allow supervisors to track learning progress and skill development. This continuous, data-driven approach is helping standardise processes and reinforce compliance across the shop floor.

Employees have reported improved accessibility to technical information and greater confidence in executing tasks. Uday Chauhan, an employee at BALCO, described the experience as highly effective, noting that the training delivered by the humanoid system was comparable to that of a human instructor.

The initiative positions BALCO among early adopters of humanoid AI in core manufacturing. The company has already implemented digital smelter technologies supported by predictive and prescriptive analytics, along with AI-driven maintenance systems covering thousands of equipment points and IoT-enabled monitoring across hundreds of machines. In mining operations, the use of autonomous drones has further strengthened safety and operational oversight.

ALAISA is part of Vedanta Aluminium’s broader digital transformation journey, spanning supply chain operations, production processes, and quality management. With a focus on advanced analytics and automation, the company continues to enhance efficiency, optimise resource utilisation, and reinforce its commitment to safe and sustainable operations.

Vedanta Aluminium, a business of Vedanta Limited, produces more than half of India’s aluminium output and is a leading manufacturer of value-added aluminium products used across critical industries. With operations spanning smelters, power plants, and an alumina refinery, the company continues to advance sustainable practices and promote aluminium as a key material for a low-carbon future.
