Vedanta Aluminium, the country’s largest aluminium manufacturer, has achieved a significant quality benchmark by securing a total of 18 certifications from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) across its operations. These certifications span its Jharsuguda smelter in Odisha—home to the world’s largest aluminium production facility—and its Korba-based operations in Chhattisgarh, operated by Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO). Earned over time, the recognitions underline the company’s sustained emphasis on superior quality, process integrity and strict adherence to regulatory norms.

Marking the latest addition to this portfolio, BALCO has received BIS certification for Aluminium Alloy Wire Rods in accordance with IS 9997:2023. With this, BALCO has now achieved eight BIS certifications, further strengthening Vedanta Aluminium’s capability to deliver high-specification materials for critical sectors such as power transmission, automotive manufacturing and advanced engineering.

Designed for high-demand applications, these alloy redraw rods offer an optimal balance of strength, conductivity and durability. Certified under the latest BIS standard, they are ideally suited for use in overhead transmission lines, automotive wiring and welding applications—segments that are central to India’s infrastructure and industrial expansion.

Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Excellence in quality and continuous innovation drive our long-term growth. As we move towards increasing the share of value-added products in our portfolio, these certifications reinforce our commitment to supplying materials that meet the most stringent performance and reliability benchmarks, supporting India’s infrastructure and manufacturing ambitions.”

Rajesh Kumar, CEO & Director, BALCO, added, “This achievement reflects BALCO’s deep-rooted quality culture and disciplined manufacturing practices. Every certification strengthens our resolve to deliver products that contribute meaningfully to sustainable development and national progress.”

The BIS accreditation follows comprehensive evaluations of manufacturing systems, testing procedures and operational consistency by India’s national standards authority. It complements BALCO’s existing BIS-certified offerings, including alloy ingots, EC ingots, T ingots, wire rods, plates, sheets and strips, catering to industries such as automotive, construction, electrical equipment, packaging and engineering.

Aligned with the vision of a developed India, Vedanta Aluminium’s certified value-added portfolio supports key priorities including grid modernization, mobility, housing, industrial electrification and precision manufacturing. Alongside BIS compliance, the company’s products also conform to global standards such as the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI), S&P Global sustainability benchmarks and IATF quality management systems.
