Saint-Gobain India Pvt Ltd, through its Gyproc business, has inaugurated India’s first Near-Net Zero gypsum ceiling tiles manufacturing facility in Visakhapatnam. The new plant represents a significant milestone in the company’s sustainability journey while strengthening its manufacturing capabilities to meet growing demand for advanced ceiling solutions in India’s construction sector.
Commissioned in December 2025, the facility has an annual production capacity of 5 million square metres and will manufacture Gyprex® PVC laminated gypsum ceiling tiles designed for commercial and institutional buildings. The investment supports Saint-Gobain’s strategy to expand its local manufacturing footprint while delivering low-carbon construction materials to the Indian market. Located in Visakhapatnam, the facility is positioned to improve market accessibility across eastern and southern India. Its strategic location will enable faster product delivery, improved supply chain efficiency and consistent adherence to global manufacturing standards.
Sudeep Kolte, Managing Director of Saint-Gobain Gyproc India, said the new facility reflects the company’s long-term commitment to sustainable manufacturing and innovation in the construction materials sector. He noted that the investment strengthens the company’s production capabilities in India while enabling the delivery of environmentally responsible ceiling solutions closer to key customer markets. According to Mr Kolte, the plant also aligns with Saint-Gobain’s broader goal of building resilient manufacturing infrastructure that can support future growth in the commercial and institutional construction segments.
The plant incorporates advanced manufacturing technologies designed to enhance operational efficiency, environmental performance and workplace safety. Key features include modern dust-collection systems and production processes designed to reduce emissions and energy consumption.
Products manufactured at the facility comply with internationally recognized quality standards including BS EN 520 and BS EN 14190. These standards ensure durability, performance and reliability in ceiling systems used in offices, hospitals, educational institutions and other large commercial spaces.
The Visakhapatnam plant also plays an important role in Saint-Gobain’s global sustainability roadmap. The company has committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, and the near-net-zero manufacturing approach adopted at the facility supports this long-term objective. By strengthening domestic production, Saint-Gobain aims to contribute to the Government of India’s Make in India initiative while supporting the construction sector with innovative and environmentally responsible building materials.
Saint-Gobain is a global leader in light and sustainable construction solutions, designing and manufacturing materials for residential, commercial and infrastructure projects worldwide.
