Teledyne e2v, a company within Teledyne Technologies and a developer of advanced imaging technologies, has introduced the Perciva™ 5D camera, a new solution designed to deliver reliable and cost-effective short-range 3D vision for industrial, retail, and robotic applications. The system is engineered to provide depth perception alongside traditional image capture, helping organisations adopt 3D vision capabilities without complex system setups.
While conventional industrial cameras typically capture only two-dimensional images, many emerging applications require accurate depth information, particularly at close working distances. Perciva 5D addresses this requirement by combining two-dimensional imaging with three-dimensional sensing in a single compact device.
The camera uses Angular Sensitive Pixel technology along with advanced onboard processing to produce synchronised 2D images and 3D depth data in real time. Both data streams originate from a single CMOS sensor, eliminating issues such as optical occlusion that often occur when multiple sensors or cameras are used. The result is pixel-aligned depth maps and time-synchronised image frames that provide a detailed understanding of object geometry and positioning.
A key feature of the system is its integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which allows artificial intelligence models to run directly within the camera hardware. This capability enables customers to customise AI algorithms for specific tasks such as object recognition, inspection, tracking, or automation processes without relying heavily on external computing resources.
Perciva 5D performs 3D imaging using ambient light and does not require additional near-infrared illumination. This design simplifies deployment and reduces overall system costs while maintaining consistent performance in both indoor and outdoor environments.
The camera includes integrated 3D processing capabilities that generate depth maps and point cloud outputs instantly. These features support applications such as robotic guidance, industrial inspection, and automated retail systems. The compact device weighs approximately 230 grams and consumes less than five watts of power, making it suitable for mobile robotics and embedded systems.
Designed for industrial environments, the camera offers a rugged IP6x-rated enclosure with M12 connectors and supports plug-and-play integration through a GenICam-compliant GigE Vision interface. The system is factory calibrated and supports adjustable frame rates as well as triggered image acquisition modes.
Perciva 5D integrates with Teledyne’s Spinnaker® 4 application programming interface and SpinView® visualisation tools, allowing developers to work with both 2D and 3D data. Compatibility with GenDC and GenTL standards also enables integration with widely used machine vision software platforms. The new camera will be demonstrated at Embedded World in Nuremberg, Germany, from March 10 to 12, 2026. Visitors can see the system at Teledyne’s booth in Hall 2, Stand 2-541.
