Jupiter Wagons Limited (JWL), a provider of rolling stock and mobility solutions, has received an order from the Ministry of Railways, Railway Board, for the manufacture and supply of 2,583 BOXNHL and BOXNS freight wagons. Valued at ₹1,140 crore, including taxes, the order reflects continued demand for freight transportation capacity and the company’s role in Indian Railways’ wagon procurement programme.
Alongside its railway orders, Jupiter Wagons continues to maintain a strong private-sector order book, supported by demand from freight operators, wagon leasing companies and customers in core industries. The combination of government and private-sector business provides a diversified order pipeline for the company. Jupiter Wagons expects incremental order inflows of approximately ₹2,000 crore in Q4 FY27. The near-term demand outlook is also supported by the Ministry of Railways’ recently issued tender for 5,800 BOBRN wagons.
Commenting on the order, Vivek Lohia, Managing Director, Jupiter Wagons Limited, said, “Indian Railways is adding freight capacity at a scale and pace this country has not seen before, and this order reflects the Ministry’s continued confidence in our ability to deliver. Over the years, we have integrated backward across the wagon value chain, from castings and bogies to couplers and brake systems, and we are now extending this to wheelsets through our facility in Odisha. That gives us greater control over cost, quality and delivery timelines. Our private sector order book remains strong, and we expect to add around INR 2,000 crore of incremental orders next quarter, giving us healthy visibility. We are ready to execute with the discipline this programme demands as India moves a greater share of its freight by rail on the path to Viksit Bharat 2047.”
The order aligns with the Government of India’s objective of increasing the share of railways in the country’s freight movement under the National Rail Plan. Wagon procurement, together with the development of Dedicated Freight Corridors and the PM Gati Shakti initiative, is intended to strengthen freight capacity, improve logistics efficiency and support the movement of goods across India.
Jupiter Wagons offers a broad portfolio of mobility products and services, including freight wagons, locomotives, commercial vehicles, ISO marine containers, couplers, draft gears, bogies, CMS crossings, brake discs, brake systems, wheels, axles and wheelsets. Its manufacturing facilities span Kolkata, Jamshedpur, Indore, Jabalpur, Bengaluru and Aurangabad, with backward integration extending to foundry operations.

Serving sectors such as railways, automotive, transportation, logistics, construction equipment, energy, mining and infrastructure, Jupiter Wagons continues to develop its manufacturing capabilities to address growing mobility and freight transportation requirements.
