Cummins in India has announced the launch of REDEFINE 2026, the ninth edition of its annual business-school case study competition. The programme gives management students an opportunity to apply their academic learning to business challenges and develop solutions based on real-world industry situations.
REDEFINE has been conducted annually since 2017 and is designed to help students strengthen strategic thinking, analytical ability, collaboration and problem-solving skills. The competition is part of Cummins India’s efforts to provide young talent with opportunities to understand business challenges and gain exposure to decision-making in an industry environment.
REDEFINE 2026 will present participants with a business challenge focused on identifying growth opportunities across products, technologies, services, applications, customer segments, geographies and business models. Students will be required to assess existing business strengths and develop recommendations aimed at supporting sustainable growth.
The competition is open to first- and second-year students pursuing PGP, PGDM, PGDBM and MBA programmes at 11 partner B-schools across India. The participating institutions are Indian School of Business, Hyderabad; Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow; Indian Institute of Management, Indore; Indian Institute of Management, Mumbai; Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi; Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur; Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai; Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune; Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development, Pune; K J Somaiya Institute of Management; and S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai.
Following multiple rounds of evaluation, finalist teams will compete in a two-day grand finale at the Cummins India Office Campus in Pune on November 17 and 18, 2026. The winning and runner-up teams will receive cash prizes and will also be offered pre-placement interviews with Cummins in India. The competition provides participants with an opportunity to demonstrate their strategic and analytical capabilities while gaining exposure to the business environment in which Cummins operates.
The 2025 edition of REDEFINE attracted 6,453 students across 2,151 teams from 19 leading institutions. Team Crow from the Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi, won the competition, while Team Visioners from the Indian School of Business, Mohali, was the first runner-up.
REDEFINE is intended to connect management education with industry requirements and give students experience in addressing business problems. Through the competition, participants work on challenges that require them to analyse market opportunities, assess business models and develop practical recommendations.
The initiative also provides students with an opportunity to interact with industry perspectives and understand the types of business challenges encountered across functions and sectors. Cummins India said the programme is part of its broader focus on developing talent and supporting the next generation of business professionals. REDEFINE is Cummins India’s annual B-school case study competition, launched in 2017. It engages students from partner institutions in solving business problems and provides a platform to demonstrate strategic, innovative and analytical capabilities.
