Elektrobit, an automotive software provider, and Microchip Technology Inc, a semiconductor supplier, have announced a collaboration to simplify AUTOSAR-based software development for automotive manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers using Microchip’s automotive platforms. The partnership aims to reduce integration effort, lower development risks and shorten time to market for next-generation vehicle systems.
As the automotive industry moves towards software-defined vehicles, manufacturers are seeking ways to accelerate software development while maintaining safety, quality and flexibility. The collaboration combines Microchip’s automotive hardware platforms with Elektrobit’s AUTOSAR software, development tools and automation capabilities to help customers establish production-ready software foundations more quickly.
The companies will provide access to pre-integrated AUTOSAR Microcontroller Abstraction Layer (MCAL) software based on Elektrobit’s EB tresos portfolio. The solution is intended to reduce software integration complexity and help engineering teams begin application development sooner, allowing them to focus on vehicle functions and product differentiation rather than foundational software integration.
Mark Reiten, Senior Corporate Vice President of Microchip’s licensing, memory products and intelligent compute business units, said the integration of Microchip’s automotive platforms with Elektrobit’s AUTOSAR expertise and tools would streamline development and support the adoption of next-generation automotive architectures. He added that the collaboration would help developers move from platform evaluation to production deployment.
Elektrobit will also apply its integration-as-code approach to automate repeatable Classic AUTOSAR integration tasks. By converting integration processes into reusable, executable logic, the approach is intended to improve development speed and help engineering teams scale their work through automation. It also provides a foundation for future AI-assisted software configuration and development workflows.
Jaganathan Rajagopalan, Vice President and Head of Strategy and Portfolio at Elektrobit, said automotive manufacturers were looking to reduce development costs and complexity while accelerating software innovation. He said the collaboration combined established automotive software with ready-to-use hardware support to help customers bring software-defined vehicle technologies to market faster.
As an initial step, Elektrobit has enabled its EB tresos AutoCore OS and EB tresos AutoCore Generic modules on Microchip’s SAMA5 series of microprocessors. The solution is available for customer adoption, with support for additional Microchip platforms expected as the collaboration develops. Initial market activities will focus on high-growth automotive segments in Asia, including the two-wheeler market, while also addressing wider automotive opportunities across Asia and North America.
