Aheesa Digital Innovations has reached a significant milestone in India’s semiconductor journey with the development of the VIHAAN series, a homegrown broadband access System-on-Chip (SoC) built on the open-standard RISC-V architecture. The achievement comes as the Chennai-based fabless semiconductor company completes five years of operations and prepares for its next phase of commercialization.

Recognized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Aheesa has progressed from concept development to advanced chip design, positioning itself among a growing group of Indian companies contributing to the nation’s semiconductor ecosystem. The company is now preparing for Multi-Project Wafer (MPW) fabrication scheduled for July 2026, with commercial market availability targeted for the first quarter of 2027.

The VIHAAN family of networking processors has been designed specifically for optical fibre broadband networks and telecommunications infrastructure. Built using the RISC-V instruction set architecture, the platform aims to provide an indigenous alternative to imported semiconductor technologies that currently dominate India’s telecom and networking sectors.

India has intensified efforts to strengthen domestic semiconductor capabilities through initiatives such as the Semicon India programme and the Make in India campaign. Against this backdrop, Aheesa has developed expertise across networking processors, broadband technologies, operating systems, integrated hardware-software platforms, and semiconductor design solutions.

Earlier this year, the company successfully completed the tape-out of VIHAAN-I, a crucial stage in semiconductor development where a validated chip design is sent for fabrication. The milestone demonstrates the growing maturity of India’s chip design ecosystem and highlights the ability of domestic engineering teams to execute complex semiconductor programmes from concept through manufacturing readiness.

Aheesa’s progress has also attracted institutional support. The company has received recognition under the Government of India’s Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme and secured strategic funding from the Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Fund Management Corporation through the Tamil Nadu Emerging Sector Seed Fund.

Speaking about the development, Saket Singh, Chief Growth Officer and Director at Aheesa Digital Innovations, said India’s broadband and digital infrastructure expansion presents a unique opportunity for indigenous technology innovation. He noted that the VIHAAN platform represents years of engineering effort aimed at strengthening domestic semiconductor capabilities while supporting the nation’s digital infrastructure requirements.

As Aheesa enters its sixth year, the company plans to expand the VIHAAN portfolio and extend its integrated technology platforms into emerging areas such as edge computing, advanced networking, and next-generation telecommunications. The company believes locally designed semiconductor technologies will play an increasingly important role in supporting India’s digital transformation and long-term technological self-reliance.
