After her graduation, she specialized in quality and productivity management. Suman’s father encouraged her to study further.”I was a gold medalist and had pursued statistics for my Master's degree.” “ Girls in our family never pursued higher studied but I did”, adds Suman.

Embarks on an uphill journey but never quits

The early days of her work were pretty intimidating for a girl like Suman who never wore jeans in her life due to orthodox family background and at her first company wearing jeans was mandatory.” It was quite alarming for me as I had never worn jeans before and also never worked in unfavorable conditions.” sighs Suman. she says that she fell unwell as she had to work night shifts and it was extremely uncomfortable. After that Suman came back to Anand to support her brother leaving the job.

Her real ordeal started when she joined Porwal Diesel Private limited, where she found the office environment to be extremely challenging. “It is a foundry area and I was startled to see the working conditions.” She mentions that the bus she traveled in from work to home was full of narrow-mindedness and the place was backward. she says that she had to attend meetings at late nights where people were drinking and she was the only lady. Completely new to such surroundings it was a culture shock for her. Undeterred by it, Suman says that her focus was to finish her work properly and get back home.

Targets attained with determination and guidance

Suman believes “If you have to grow u should set a target for yourself despite any odds.” With sheer determination and an objective to attain her goals, Suman treads the rough path to finally meet her expectations. Suman Joined Rhino Machines, one of Gujarat’s leading foundry machine production, equipment marketing, engineering, and Consultancy companies. As a global player, the company offers an exhaustive range of cutting-edge foundry equipment and world-class technology industry leaders like Fondarc (France) and Found Equip (Italy).

Suman says that she gained immense confidence and experience in the company under the guidance of Mr Manish Kothari, Managing Director, Rhino Machines. It was a difficult time for a girl like me amidst heavy machines and mostly men but she got used to it She happily says that after joining Rhino she found out that the environment was calm and composed and it trained her helped her in the all-round development to become a true professional. She says that it was easy working on the shop floor which was previously a hazardous place for her. “I found my colleagues and seniors very supportive and learn a lot from this  company.”

Hard work and  a strong resolution key to success

As the Systems Head of Rhino Machines, she was and remains the first woman who worked shoulder to shoulder with the men on the shop floor, adapting to any situation, and continuously learning. Over the past 5 years, she has adapted to a materials management role, ERP system management, ISO management, costing, and systems integration, helped design ERP system in Tally for Rhino’s partner company Meemansa.

Suman’s path to her success was decided by herself. She says “I learned the art of grasping anything that was taught to me very fast and made an effort to excel in the area of my work with sheer confidence.” Flinging aside age-old stereotypes, Suman shouts out to every woman who wants to excel in manufacturing, “To establish oneself in this field, unflinching dedication is a requisite.
