ZECHA Precision Tools Limited, an Indo-German collaboration that brings more than 80 years of manufacturing expertise in round micro tools for milling and drilling, is partnering with Hurco India, demonstrating their latest cutting tools at the Open House. ZECHA Hartmetall-Werkzeugfabrikation GmbH, the parent company is based out of Germany and manufacturing high-end cutting tool solutions since 1999.
Talking about the partnership for HURCO TAKUMI Open House 2022, Mangesh Awate, Deputy General Manager of ZECHA Precision Tools Limited said that developing a partnership between a cutting tool manufacturer and a machine tool builder is one avenue to promote advanced machining technology. The larger the series of parts to be produced, the more important cycle times and tool costs are. With large quantities, such as those usual for the car industry, the properties of both the machine tool and the tool itself need to be optimally suited to each other – and to the chosen manufacturing process.

At HURCO TAKUMI Open House, the tried-and-tested PEACOCK mill cutters from ZECHA will be seen working in the Hurco Machines. The versatile PEACOCK from ZECHA is the go-to tool for achieving fine contours in the HSC processing of highly alloyed and hardened steel up to 67 HRC. They effortlessly achieve precision, stability and smooth surfaces in different areas of application, particularly in mould making.

ZECHA will also demonstrate their laser process diamond coated solid carbide tools, IGUANA at the open house. “The high-end series IGUANA is revolutionising the market in the micro sector. IGUANA tools are multi-cutters in the small-bore sector with sharp cutting edges and highly wear-resistant, sealed diamond coating – an absolute innovation”, said Mangesh.
Through the targeted processing of the cutting edges via laser technology (R=1μm) and the special cutting geometry, the cutting loads are reduced considerably. The result is a reduction in the generation of heat and a better geometrical and dimensional accuracy. This optimal tool geometry in combination with the sharp and sealed diamond coating leads to longer service life. An additional benefit of laser processing is tool cutting without clusters, which thus have a better surface quality in comparison with the previous diamond-coated tools.
The IGUANA family offers different lines with special geometric optimizations for ideal machining different applications. Within this decade, advanced carbide cutting tools used with constant chip load CNC cutting strategies have dramatically increased material removal rates for roughing of mould cores and cavities.
Users report roughing cycle time savings of 25% to 50% or more versus conventional cutting strategies, while achieving dimensions closer to near net shape after roughing, need to do subsequent finishing operations. As roughing and finishing, both operations account for the bulk of the machining time required for most mould cores and cavities.
