YKK Corporation has announced plans to establish a new manufacturing facility in India, reinforcing its long-term commitment to one of the world’s fastest-growing textile and apparel production hubs. The investment will strengthen the company’s manufacturing footprint in the country while enhancing its ability to serve both domestic customers and export-oriented garment manufacturers.
The new facility will be developed by YKK India Private Limited at Origins by Mahindra near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. It will become the company’s third manufacturing plant in India, complementing its two existing production facilities in Haryana. The expansion reflects YKK’s strategy of positioning manufacturing closer to key apparel and textile clusters as India continues to emerge as a preferred global sourcing destination.
The Chennai facility will incorporate advanced manufacturing technologies and modern production systems designed to improve efficiency, quality and operational flexibility. By expanding its production capabilities in southern India, YKK aims to respond more effectively to increasing customer demand while supporting shorter delivery cycles and greater supply chain reliability.
The investment is expected to enhance YKK’s ability to supply fastening solutions to apparel manufacturers serving both the domestic retail market and international brands. As India’s textile exports continue to expand, manufacturers are seeking reliable component suppliers capable of maintaining global quality standards and consistent delivery schedules.
Beyond production expansion, the company plans to contribute to regional economic development through local hiring initiatives and community engagement. The new plant is expected to generate employment opportunities across manufacturing, engineering, technical services and plant operations while supporting skill development in the surrounding region.
YKK stated that the facility has been designed to support a broad range of customer requirements through flexible production capabilities and advanced manufacturing processes. The company also intends to integrate sustainable operating practices and efficient production technologies as part of its long-term manufacturing strategy.
India has become an increasingly important market for the global textile value chain due to its expanding manufacturing base, competitive production ecosystem and growing export potential. The establishment of a third manufacturing location positions YKK to participate more actively in this growth while strengthening partnerships with garment exporters and apparel manufacturers.
With operations spanning multiple global markets, YKK continues to invest in production capacity that aligns with evolving customer requirements. The Chennai project marks another milestone in the company’s regional expansion strategy and reinforces its confidence in India’s position as a leading manufacturing destination for the global textile and apparel industry.
