Yashoda Hospital, Hitech City, in partnership with Qure.ai and AstraZeneca, has introduced an AI-powered Lung Nodule Clinic aimed at enhancing early detection and prompt management of lung cancer and other respiratory conditions. Lung cancer remains one of the top causes of cancer-related fatalities in India.

Many patients are diagnosed only at later stages due to the absence of symptoms in the early phases, making it hard to detect during routine check-ups. A significant number of cases in India are diagnosed late, reducing the likelihood of curative treatments. Moreover, India lacks a nationwide lung cancer screening initiative for high-risk individuals, making structured imaging essential for identifying the disease at an earlier, more treatable stage.

Pulmonary nodules are often subtle and vary in size, shape, and location, which can make them difficult to consistently identify through standard chest imaging. The new Lung Nodule Clinic at Yashoda Hospital integrates Qure.ai’s AI technology into chest X-ray workflows, allowing for automatic flagging, risk assessment, and tracking of nodules in a systematic way. These nodules can indicate early-stage lung cancer or other conditions like tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, or lymphoma. The AI-powered process helps healthcare professionals prioritize high-risk cases and ensures timely follow-ups.

“This initiative highlights the potential of AI in clinical workflows to support early detection and systematic management of lung diseases,” said Dr V Nagarjuna Maturu, Head of Pulmonology at Yashoda Hospital, Hitech City. “The pathway guarantees that incidental findings are consistently tracked and monitored. With AI embedded into routine practices, Yashoda Hospital has developed a scalable model for proactive lung care. This demonstrates how data-driven solutions, combined with clinical expertise, can enhance real-world diagnosis and patient outcomes.”

A dedicated nurse navigator is part of the system to guide patients from AI detection to counseling, evaluation, and the next steps. “Standardized workflows help streamline the process, ensuring timely communication and thorough documentation,” added Dr. Vipul Garg, Lead Consultant at Yashoda Hospitals Nodule Clinic.

Since the launch, over 17,000 chest X-rays have been analyzed using Qure.ai’s AI platform, uncovering more than 960 nodules. Of these, 136 were classified as high risk, leading to 77 patients being referred for urgent CT scans and pulmonology assessments. The confirmed diagnoses included both lung cancer and other significant pulmonary conditions, showcasing the broader benefits of this approach for proactive lung care.

“AI is playing an increasingly critical role in strengthening early diagnosis and reducing the impact of advanced lung disease,” said Sagar Sen, Vice President of Life Sciences at Qure.ai. “By incorporating AI into routine imaging, hospitals can transform everyday X-rays into opportunities for earlier detection and better coordinated care. The Lung Nodule Clinic at Yashoda Hospital is a prime example of how technology and clinical expertise can collaborate to create a more proactive approach to lung health.” This AI-driven pathway represents a significant step toward structured, data-informed lung health management and highlights the role of modern diagnostic tools in enhancing early detection within high-volume healthcare environments.
