Wheels India has entered into a Technical Assistance Agreement with Tokyo-based Topy Industries to strengthen its capabilities in the design, development, and manufacturing of cast aluminium alloy wheels. Under the agreement, Topy Industries will provide engineering expertise and technical support to enhance Wheels India’s product development and manufacturing processes in the aluminium wheels segment.

Wheels India began its aluminium alloy wheel operations in FY21 with the commissioning of a modern manufacturing facility at Thervoy Kandigai near Chennai. The company initially focused on exports to the aftermarket in the United States and Europe and has since expanded its focus to the domestic original equipment manufacturer (OEM) market.

The company has already commenced supplies to leading Indian automotive manufacturers, including Tata Motors and Stellantis. In addition, Wheels India has secured new orders from Hyundai and Volkswagen, with production and deliveries expected to begin in the next financial year.

Commenting on the collaboration, Srivats Ram, Managing Director of Wheels India, said that Topy Industries brings over a century of experience and global leadership in wheel manufacturing. He noted that the partnership would add significant technical depth to Wheels India’s aluminium wheel business and support its efforts to enhance competitiveness and win new customer programmes in the segment.

The agreement is also expected to help Wheels India expand its presence with Japanese automotive manufacturers operating in India. According to Srivats Ram, the collaboration creates opportunities to strengthen relationships with Japanese OEMs in the alloy wheel category.

To support growing demand, Wheels India is currently expanding capacity at its Thervoy Kandigai plant from 5 lakh to 7 lakh alloy wheels per annum, with completion targeted by the end of the next quarter. Encouraged by market prospects, the company plans a further expansion to 10 lakh wheels per annum, which is expected to be completed by the end of FY27.

Wheels India already maintains a joint venture with Topy Industries in the steel wheels segment through WIL Car Wheels Limited, where it holds a 74 percent equity stake. This venture supplies steel wheels primarily to Japanese OEMs in India.

Wheels India is a leading manufacturer of wheels for trucks, agricultural tractors, passenger vehicles, and construction equipment. The company also produces air suspension systems for commercial vehicles and industrial components for the construction and wind energy sectors, with manufacturing facilities across Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
