Global automotive supplier Webasto has announced plans to open its third production facility in India to support rising demand for sunroof systems in the country’s automotive market. The new plant, located in the Delhi region between Manesar and Kharkhoda, is expected to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The facility will focus on manufacturing openable roof systems for passenger vehicles and is designed to produce around 500,000 units annually. The expansion reflects strong growth in the Indian automotive sector, where sunroofs are increasingly becoming a standard feature in mid-range and premium vehicles.
With the addition of the new plant alongside its existing facilities in western and southern India, Webasto will have a presence across all major automotive manufacturing clusters in the country. The company said this will increase its total production capacity in India to about two million roof systems per year.
Vikas Prasad, President of Webasto India, said the new plant will allow the company to respond more quickly to customer needs while supporting job creation and local manufacturing. He added that close proximity to automotive manufacturers helps improve supply chain efficiency and flexibility.
Webasto Group Chief Executive Officer Joerg Buchheim said India has become a strategically important market for the company’s global growth. He noted that increasing demand for advanced vehicle features and the expansion of local manufacturing make India a key focus for Webasto’s investment plans.
Webasto has invested more than €110 million in its Indian operations since 2019 and plans to invest a total of €174 million in the country by 2030. The company said these investments are aimed at expanding capacity, improving technology capabilities and strengthening local partnerships.
India’s automotive industry has been growing steadily, supported by rising consumer demand and increasing localisation by global manufacturers. Webasto said the new facility will help it supply innovative roof systems tailored to Indian vehicle designs while meeting global quality standards.
Webasto Group is among the world’s leading suppliers of sunroofs, heating systems and battery solutions for the automotive industry. The company operates production facilities and development centres worldwide and works with major vehicle manufacturers across multiple markets. The new plant underscores Webasto’s commitment to India and its plans to support the country’s expanding automotive manufacturing ecosystem.
