Vimag Labs has commenced manufacturing operations at its first dedicated production facility at Met City, Jhajjar, Haryana, marking a shift from technology development and validation to industrial production. The facility manufactures and assembles motor, control and propulsion systems, including the company’s proprietary magnet-free motor technology. Vimag has completed and exported its first production batch from the site.

The Jhajjar facility covers 10,000 sq. ft., with scope to expand to approximately 20,000 sq. ft. The company currently plans to invest around Rs 50 crore in a phased manufacturing expansion across India. The timing and scale of investment will depend on customer demand, production volumes and product requirements.

The initial manufacturing phase focuses on industrialisation, process validation and serial production of mid-power motor and control systems. The facility includes clean-room areas, digitally connected production systems, Industry 4.0 and Internet of Things-enabled monitoring, production traceability and automated manufacturing equipment.

Manish Seth, Co-founder and CEO of Vimag Labs, said the start of production marked an important step in the company’s move towards industrialisation and serial manufacturing. He said the first exported batch demonstrated that the Jhajjar facility had entered commercial production.

Mr Seth added that the company would initially focus on mid-power motor and control systems for commercial programmes before expanding into high-power systems rated at 570 kW and above as customer programmes mature. The expansion will require additional manufacturing, testing and industrialisation capabilities.

Vimag is building a manufacturing network designed to scale to a capacity of up to 10,000 motor and control systems per month as customer volumes increase. The company is evaluating additional locations and capacity while developing partnerships across India’s manufacturing, component supply, tooling and industrialisation sectors. The network is intended to serve both domestic and international customers. The company is working with customers and industry partners across vehicle and application segments. Its initial focus includes electric mobility and other electrified systems, with future capacity additions planned according to demand and product mix.

Vimag expects the manufacturing expansion to generate around 100 to 150 direct and indirect employment opportunities across production, quality control, testing, engineering, supply chain and operations. Local recruitment is expected to form part of its workforce expansion.

The company recently raised US$5 million in a Series A funding round led by Accel, with participation from Chakra Growth Fund and Thinkuvate. It has also signed a manufacturing memorandum of understanding with Jendamark Pvt. Ltd. to support production scale-up. Separately, Vimag has secured an exclusive US technology licensing, manufacturing and commercialisation agreement for a production-ready bidirectional high-voltage inverter platform capable of operating at up to 1,000 volts.

Vimag Labs is a Bengaluru-based deep-technology company developing electric motor technology. Its patented VMSM platform replaces rare-earth permanent magnets with software-defined magnetic fields and is designed for mobility, industrial and defence applications. The company is expanding its operations across India, Europe and the United States.
