Vikran Engineering Limited (VEL) has commissioned its second 5 MW solar power plant at Ambijalgaon in the Ahilyanagar district, marking continued progress in its renewable energy expansion under the PM-KUSUM Scheme. The project forms part of a larger 600 MW solar development contract secured by the company in December 2025.
The newly operational facility has been developed to provide reliable daytime electricity for agricultural irrigation, addressing persistent challenges related to erratic grid supply and dependence on diesel-powered pumping systems. By enabling daytime access to power, the plant is expected to improve productivity and reduce input costs for farmers in the region.
The Ambijalgaon solar installation is projected to generate approximately 10,000 MWh of clean energy annually while avoiding an estimated 8,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year. In addition to environmental benefits, the project supports efficient utilisation of underused land, creating long-term income opportunities for local landowners.
The commissioning reflects Vikran Engineering’s continued diversification into renewable energy infrastructure, aligned with its focus on delivering projects that contribute to energy access, sustainability and rural economic development.
Commenting on the development, Rakesh Markhedkar, Chairman and Managing Director of Vikran Engineering Limited, said the project represents a key step in the company’s renewable energy roadmap. He noted that such initiatives not only contribute to clean power generation but also strengthen rural infrastructure and support agricultural communities.
With this milestone, Vikran Engineering has now operationalised two solar plants within its broader pipeline, while an additional 145 MW capacity remains under active construction. The company indicated that execution is progressing in line with planned timelines.
The project also highlights the company’s ability to manage complex infrastructure delivery across diverse conditions, including regions affected by seasonal weather challenges. Coordination with government agencies, contractors, land partners and supply chain stakeholders has been central to maintaining project momentum.
Vikran Engineering’s expansion into solar energy builds on its established presence in power transmission and distribution, water infrastructure and railway electrification. The company provides end-to-end EPC solutions, covering design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning.
Over the years, Vikran Engineering has completed 45 projects across 14 states, working with organisations such as NTPC Limited and Power Grid Corporation of India, along with state utilities and public sector clients. Its asset-light operating model, supported by in-house engineering capabilities and a network of over 3,500 vendors, enables efficient project execution and timely delivery.
