Brookfield Corporation and The Nuclear Company (TNC) have announced a strategic partnership to establish a new enterprise focused on the development and execution of nuclear energy projects across the United States. The initiative is designed to accelerate deployment of advanced reactor technologies and strengthen the country’s long-term energy infrastructure.
The newly formed company will concentrate on projects built around Westinghouse Electric Company reactor designs, including the AP1000 and AP300 platforms. It will provide integrated services spanning project development, licensing support, engineering oversight, procurement, construction management and commissioning.
The collaboration combines Brookfield’s global experience in infrastructure investment and asset management with TNC’s expertise in nuclear project execution. Together, the partners aim to create a dedicated platform capable of delivering nuclear projects at scale, with a focus on efficiency, standardisation and execution certainty.
As part of its initial mandate, Brookfield has selected the new entity to serve as project manager for a proposed nuclear development in Fairfield County, South Carolina, near Jenkinsville. The site, known as VC Summer Nuclear Station Units 2 and 3, represents one of the most advanced partially completed nuclear projects in the country. The initiative has the support of Santee Cooper, the state-owned electric and water utility.
The new company will lead due diligence activities for the project and oversee execution if it proceeds to a final investment decision. Advancement of the project will depend on regulatory approvals, further evaluation and completion of definitive agreements.
Wyatt Hartley, Managing Partner at Brookfield, stated that the partnership reflects a focused approach to large-scale infrastructure investment, built on collaboration with experienced operators and supported by long-term capital deployment. Joe Klecha, Chief Nuclear Officer at TNC, highlighted the importance of combining technical expertise, operational capability and financial resources to deliver complex nuclear projects efficiently and at scale.
The new platform is expected to support the broader expansion of nuclear energy in the United States, contributing to reliable, low-carbon power generation and energy security. By leveraging proven reactor technologies and streamlined execution models, the partnership aims to address growing demand for stable and sustainable electricity supply.
