Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited (BSE: 544780 | NSE: VAML), India’s largest aluminium producer, has reported its highest-ever quarterly aluminium production of 649 KT in the second quarter of FY27. The company also recorded its highest-ever quarterly alumina production of 895 KT during the quarter.
Aluminium production increased 5% year-on-year in Q2 FY27, while alumina production rose 37%. Value-added aluminium production grew 31% during the quarter, supported by the ramp-up of new capacity, improvements in operational efficiency and the continued expansion of the company’s downstream product portfolio.
Vedanta Aluminium also recorded its highest-ever half-yearly production of aluminium and alumina during the first half of FY27. Aluminium production stood at 1,281 KT in H1 FY27, while alumina production reached 1,721 KT. The company’s aluminium production growth was supported by higher output from its operating facilities and the commissioning of additional smelter capacity. Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), a subsidiary of Vedanta Aluminium, recorded aluminium production of 178 KT in Q2 FY27, registering 19% year-on-year growth.
BALCO also commissioned the second zone of its 525 kA smelter potline during the quarter. The development takes the company’s 435 KTPA aluminium expansion project to 50% of its planned capacity. The expansion is expected to add to BALCO’s production capacity as the remaining facilities are brought into operation.
The increase in value-added production forms part of Vedanta Aluminium’s strategy to expand its downstream portfolio and cater to customers across sectors that require specialised aluminium products. The company produces aluminium and alumina for applications across automotive, building and construction, electrical and other industrial segments.
The record quarterly production comes amid the company’s continued focus on increasing capacity and improving the efficiency of its operations. Higher production from new capacity, together with operational improvements, has supported growth across both aluminium and alumina during the first half of the financial year.
In Q1 FY27, Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited had declared a dividend of Rs. 8 per share and reported a profit after tax (PAT) of Rs. 6,597 crore. The Q2 FY27 production performance takes the company’s aluminium output to a new quarterly high and marks continued growth in alumina and value-added aluminium production. The company’s capacity expansion programme and downstream initiatives are expected to support further growth in production and product offerings.
As India’s largest aluminium producer, Vedanta Aluminium manufactures over half of the country’s aluminium production, reaching 2.42 million tonnes in FY25. The company is a leader in value-added aluminium products essential for industries like automotive, aerospace, and construction. In the 2024 S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment, Vedanta Aluminium ranked second in the aluminium sector, reflecting its leadership in sustainable development practices. With advanced aluminium smelters, an alumina refinery, and power plants in India, Vedanta Aluminium continues to champion the use of aluminium as a key material for a greener, more sustainable future.
