Varenyam Biolifesciences, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bharat Parenterals Limited, has decided to upgrade its upcoming manufacturing facility at Savli, Gujarat, to provide biologics and biosimilar contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) services for regulated global markets.
Following a board resolution dated August 11, 2026, Varenyam Biolifesciences will expand the scope of the facility beyond its original Rest-of-World focus. The revised plan will include dedicated capabilities for biologics and biosimilar manufacturing along with the existing oncology business.
As part of the expansion, Phase 1 capital expenditure has been increased to ₹300 crore from the earlier ₹150 crore. The upgraded facility will be designed to serve customers in the United States, European Union and SRA Rest-of-World markets. Varenyam Bio plans to pursue approvals including USFDA, EU-GMP and ANVISA.
The facility will comprise two dedicated blocks. One will focus on biologics and biosimilars, while the other will manufacture small-molecule oncology products. Construction is targeted for completion by the second quarter of 2028, subject to regulatory approvals and commissioning requirements.
The decision follows growing demand for manufacturing partners that can support biologic products as they move from clinical development to commercial production. Many biotechnology and specialty pharmaceutical companies rely on CDMOs for process development, analytical services and GMP-compliant manufacturing as their products advance through development stages.
Varenyam Bio expects its expanded capabilities to allow customers to work with a single manufacturing partner across multiple stages of product development. The company believes this could support longer-term customer relationships and provide opportunities to increase its share of business from existing clients. The expanded facility will also give Varenyam Bio access to a wider customer base compared with the earlier model, which was primarily focused on regulated Rest-of-World markets.
BB Desai, Director – Strategy & IR, Bharat Parenterals Limited, said the global biologics and biosimilar CDMO market represents a significant opportunity. He noted that industry estimates currently place the market at around USD 24 billion to USD 27 billion, with continued growth expected over the coming years. Mr Desai said the revised strategy is intended to position Varenyam Biolifesciences to benefit from the expansion of the biologics and biosimilar manufacturing market.
Varenyam Biolifesciences is part of Bharat Parenterals’ broader manufacturing strategy. The group also operates through Innoxel Lifesciences, which focuses on USFDA-grade injectable CDMO services, and Varenyam Healthcare, which caters to the domestic branded formulations market.
