Uttar Pradesh is seeking to deepen its economic and industrial partnership with Japan, with opportunities emerging across green hydrogen, automobiles, advanced manufacturing, technology, innovation and healthcare. Speaking at the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026 at Taj Palace, New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna said Japan is becoming an increasingly important partner in the state’s long-term development and industrial growth.
The Minister highlighted the growing interest of Japanese companies in Uttar Pradesh and welcomed the delegation led by Kotaro Nagasaki, Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture. He said the participation of the Japanese delegation reflects growing confidence in the state’s business environment and investment opportunities.
According to Mr Khanna, Uttar Pradesh has strengthened its investment proposition through improvements in infrastructure, connectivity, law and order, governance and the availability of skilled manpower. The state’s large consumer market and industrial base further add to its appeal for international investors.
He also highlighted initiatives such as Nivesh Mitra, which have been introduced to simplify approvals and improve the ease of doing business. The platform has helped streamline the process for investors and support the implementation of investment proposals across the state. The Minister said the recent visit of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to Japan has provided additional momentum to economic and institutional engagement between Uttar Pradesh and Japanese businesses and organisations.
Green hydrogen has emerged as one of the areas with strong potential for cooperation. Uttar Pradesh’s growing industrial base, combined with Japan’s experience in advanced technology and clean-energy solutions, could create opportunities for projects and technology partnerships in the sector.
Automobiles and advanced manufacturing are also expected to remain important areas of engagement. Japanese companies can contribute technology, manufacturing expertise and innovation capabilities, while Uttar Pradesh offers infrastructure, a large market and a growing pool of skilled workers. Opportunities are also expanding in healthcare, digital technologies and innovation, where collaboration can extend beyond direct investment to research, technology transfer and institutional partnerships.
Mr Khanna said Uttar Pradesh considers Japan more than an investment source and views the country as a long-term strategic partner in sustainable development. The state aims to build relationships that support technology adoption, innovation, industrial growth and employment alongside capital investment.
The UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026 is expected to provide a platform for further discussions between government representatives, Japanese businesses and industry stakeholders. The state government expressed confidence that continued engagement will strengthen investment flows and create new opportunities for collaboration between Uttar Pradesh and Japan. The partnership is expected to support Uttar Pradesh’s efforts to attract high-value industries while giving Japanese companies access to the state’s expanding infrastructure, talent base and domestic market.
