Suresh Gopi, Hon’ble Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Tourism, chaired a high-level review meeting in Coimbatore on May 26, 2026, to assess the progress of major energy infrastructure projects being implemented by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) across Tamil Nadu. The review focused on two key projects — the Irugur–Devanagonthi Multi Product Pipeline Project and BPCL’s City Gas Distribution (CGD) project covering Erode and Nilgiris districts. Senior officials from BPCL, the Government of Tamil Nadu, district administration, and infrastructure agencies participated in the discussions aimed at accelerating project implementation and resolving critical operational challenges.

The Irugur–Devanagonthi Multi Product Pipeline Project is being developed at a revised project cost of approximately ₹1,732 crore and has achieved 82.6 percent physical progress. Designed with a capacity of 3.5 MMTPA, the project involves the development of a 355-kilometre cross-country multi-product pipeline connecting Tamil Nadu and Karnataka along with associated terminal facilities.

The pipeline is expected to significantly improve fuel transportation efficiency across western Tamil Nadu and neighbouring regions by enabling faster, safer, and environmentally efficient movement of petroleum products. The project is also expected to reduce logistics costs, strengthen regional fuel supply infrastructure, and support long-term industrial development.

The Minister also reviewed the progress of BPCL’s City Gas Distribution project for Erode and Nilgiris districts, which involves an estimated investment of approximately ₹3,685 crore and has achieved around 44.6 percent physical completion. The CGD network aims to expand access to cleaner fuel solutions for households, industries, commercial establishments, and transportation sectors across the region.

Subhankar Sen, Director (Marketing), BPCL, attended the review meeting along with the District Collector of Tiruppur, officials from the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO), representatives from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), State Highways Department officials, and other key stakeholders associated with project execution.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding land access, infrastructure coordination, execution timelines, and measures required to ensure timely project completion. The projects form part of broader efforts to strengthen India’s energy transportation and gas distribution infrastructure while supporting economic growth and industrial expansion in southern India.

BPCL stated that both projects are strategically important for improving energy accessibility, enhancing operational efficiency, and supporting cleaner fuel adoption in the region. The company also emphasized its commitment to sustainable infrastructure development and operational excellence.

A Fortune Global 500 company, BPCL is India’s second-largest oil marketing company and one of the country’s leading integrated energy enterprises. The company operates across both upstream and downstream segments of the oil and gas industry and has been accorded Maharatna status, granting greater operational and financial autonomy.

BPCL’s refineries located at Mumbai, Kochi and Bina together have a refining capacity of nearly 35.3 MMTPA. Its extensive nationwide infrastructure includes more than 25,300 fuel stations, over 1,000 CNG stations, 6,250 LPG distributorships, 81 aviation service stations, 81 POL storage locations, 56 LPG bottling plants, multiple lubricant blending plants and six cross-country pipelines.

The company is also accelerating its sustainability initiatives with EV charging infrastructure available at more than 6,800 fuel stations. BPCL is pursuing its vision of becoming a Net Zero Energy Company by 2040 for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, while continuing to support community development initiatives in education, healthcare, water conservation, skill development and social welfare under its “Energising Lives” mission.
