Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), in partnership with the Surat District Panchayat, has launched Toyota-E-Kaksha, a mobile computer education programme aimed at improving digital literacy among students in government schools across Surat district. The programme was launched by Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi in the presence of Devendra Prakash Meena, IAS, District Development Officer, Surat District Panchayat, and senior officials from Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
Under the initiative, TKM will provide a mobile computer education bus equipped with 21 computers, internet connectivity, educational software and interactive digital learning tools. The bus will visit government schools across the district, giving students access to practical computer education at their schools.
The programme is expected to benefit 1,000 students annually across 50 government schools. It aims to improve access to digital learning and help students develop basic information technology skills at an early stage. The initiative follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed between TKM and the Surat District Panchayat on March 11, 2026. The partnership seeks to address gaps in access to technology and provide students in government schools with opportunities to learn computer skills, regardless of their location.
Speaking at the launch, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi said digital literacy was essential for children’s future and that students in both urban and rural areas should have equal opportunities to learn. He said Toyota-E-Kaksha would bring computer education directly to government school students and support the state’s efforts to improve the quality of education.
Vikram Gulati, Country Head and Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said education was an important driver of progress and digital literacy had become as essential as basic reading and writing skills. He said the mobile classroom would help students gain access to technology, build confidence and prepare for future opportunities.
Digital literacy plays an increasingly important role in education, employment, communication and participation in public life. By taking computer facilities to schools, Toyota-E-Kaksha aims to give students practical exposure to technology and strengthen their foundational digital skills.
TKM intends to develop the programme as a sustainable model in partnership with the government, with the possibility of extending it to other districts. Since 2001, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has undertaken community initiatives in education, environmental protection, road safety, skill development, health and hygiene, and disaster management. The company works with government bodies and civil society organisations to support India’s development priorities and its global philosophy of “Creating Mobility for All.”
