Torrent Green Energy Private Limited, a Torrent Group company and wholly owned subsidiary of Torrent Power Limited, has commissioned 322 MWp of ground-mounted decentralised solar power projects across Nashik district in Maharashtra under the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana (MSKVY) 2.0. The projects are being implemented under Component-C of the Government of India’s PM-KUSUM scheme and are aimed at supporting agricultural feeder solarisation and strengthening access to clean, reliable power for farmers.
The solar portfolio has been developed across 50 locations covering 14 talukas of Nashik district, making it one of the most geographically distributed agricultural feeder solarisation initiatives implemented under the MSKVY framework. Electricity generated by the projects will be supplied to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) under 25-year Power Purchase Agreements.
The decentralised model brings solar generation closer to agricultural consumption centres and is expected to provide daytime electricity supply to rural feeders. By enabling local solar plants to serve agricultural loads, the projects are designed to improve grid efficiency, reduce distribution losses and support more sustainable agricultural operations. The initiative also aligns with national and state-level objectives focused on renewable energy adoption, agricultural solarisation and greater energy self-reliance.
Execution of the 322 MWp portfolio involved simultaneous development across multiple locations and required the coordination of several activities, including land-related matters, grid connectivity, statutory and local clearances, engineering, procurement and construction. Managing construction activities across 50 sites presented significant logistical and execution challenges, requiring coordination among government agencies, local authorities, landowners, contractors, project partners and Torrent teams.
Jigish Mehta, Whole-Time Director, Torrent Power Limited, said the successful commissioning of the projects reflected the collaborative efforts of MSEDCL, local administration, landowners, project partners, contractors and Torrent’s project teams. He said the milestone reinforced Torrent’s commitment to India’s clean energy transition while supporting the agricultural sector with reliable and sustainable daytime electricity.
