Ubifly Technologies, widely known as The ePlane Company, has entered into a strategic partnership with Germany-based HENSOLDT Avionics to integrate advanced avionics systems into the e200X, India’s first compact electric air taxi currently under development. The collaboration marks a critical step in the aircraft’s transition from subscale prototypes to a full-scale production-ready model.
Through this integration, the e200X will be equipped with a comprehensive avionics architecture designed to deliver high levels of safety, situational awareness, and operational performance in crowded urban airspace. The avionics package from HENSOLDT will act as the central operational system of the aircraft, combining navigation, connectivity, traffic awareness, and landing assistance capabilities required for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) operations.
The avionics package integrates several advanced systems designed to support safe and efficient operations in complex urban airspace. At its core is the EuroNav 7 Next Generation digital moving map, which provides mission management and navigation capabilities that help pilots operate with greater precision while navigating dense city environments. Complementing this is CaviSight, a visual landing aid that delivers enhanced video and vision capabilities, assisting pilots during critical phases of flight such as takeoff and landing, particularly in confined areas like rooftop helipads.
To strengthen flight safety in increasingly busy skies, the aircraft will also feature the RF1 Smart Antenna, which supports cooperative traffic detection. The system alerts pilots to nearby aircraft, helping them maintain awareness of surrounding traffic and reduce the risk of mid-air conflicts. This added layer of situational awareness is especially important for future urban air mobility operations where multiple aircraft may operate within limited airspace.
In addition to navigation and safety systems, the avionics suite includes CaviConnect, a secure datalink designed to maintain continuous communication between the aircraft and ground infrastructure. This connectivity enables real-time data exchange for operational coordination, fleet monitoring, and performance tracking, supporting a more connected and data-driven approach to managing electric air taxi operations.
In addition, the EB1 Multipurpose Airborne Computer will provide onboard processing capacity to run mission-critical applications while supporting future upgrades including autonomous capabilities. Engineers from both companies are working together to integrate these systems within the aircraft’s architecture, ensuring compatibility with the operational profile of the e200X. The avionics configuration forms part of the aircraft’s certification program with India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) following the design freeze of its avionics architecture.
“Developing a certifiable eVTOL platform requires seamless integration of sophisticated systems,” said Prof Satya Chakravarthy, Founder and Technical Lead of The ePlane Company. “Our partnership with HENSOLDT allows us to incorporate decades of aviation safety expertise into the e200X while ensuring the situational awareness needed for operations in dense urban environments.”
Michael Groeninger, Managing Director of HENSOLDT Avionics GmbH, said the collaboration demonstrates how advanced avionics can support emerging air mobility solutions. “Urban air mobility introduces new operational challenges. Our systems are designed to deliver the level of awareness and reliability needed for these missions,” he said.
Incubated at IIT Madras, The ePlane Company is developing the e200X electric air taxi with an initial focus on air ambulance services aimed at significantly reducing medical transport times across India. Its initial commercial rollout will focus on air ambulance services to reduce emergency medical travel times across the country. IIT Madras continues to support startups through its Discovery Campus and Incubation Cell, providing infrastructure, talent and technical validation for next-generation engineering ventures.
