Tata Steel has been recognised as a Gold Employer by the India Workplace Equality Index (IWEI) 2025, marking the fifth consecutive year the Company has received this distinction. The recognition highlights Tata Steel’s sustained efforts to advance LGBT+ inclusion and create a fair and respectful workplace for employees across the organisation.
With over 100 organisations participating in the sixth edition of the IWEI Summit & Awards, Tata Steel’s Gold Employer status reflects the consistent integration of diversity and inclusion principles across company policies, talent management systems, leadership practices, and engagement initiatives.

Over the past year, Tata Steel has taken several notable steps to strengthen inclusion across operations. These include the launch of the world’s first all-women shift in mining operations at Noamundi, the introduction of an all-women firefighting team in Jamshedpur—the first such initiative in the Indian steel industry—and the deployment of women employees across all shifts at the Kalinganagar plant.
The Company has also enhanced its Parental Benefit Policy to support shared caregiving responsibilities and employee well-being. In addition, Tata Steel’s Gender Reassignment Policy provides confidential and structured support for employees seeking gender affirmation-related assistance.
Tata Steel’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts began in 2015 with the launch of the MOSAIC programme, which focuses on women, LGBTQIA+ communities, affirmative action, and persons with disabilities. The programme is structured around five pillars: sensitisation, infrastructure, recruitment, retention and development, and inclusive celebrations.
The India Workplace Equality Index is India’s first benchmarking framework that assesses employer progress on LGBT+ inclusion across nine areas, including policies, leadership, employee lifecycle, and community engagement.
