Tata Motors Limited has entered into a strategic partnership with Welspun Renewable Energy Private Limited (WREPL) to develop an 86 MW wind-solar hybrid renewable energy project that will supply clean electricity to the company’s commercial vehicle manufacturing facilities across Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Karnataka. The initiative marks a significant step in Tata Motors’ transition to renewable energy and supports its long-term sustainability and decarbonisation objectives.

The project, backed by a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and co-investment by both companies, is expected to generate nearly 200 million units of renewable electricity annually. The clean energy produced will be dedicated exclusively to Tata Motors’ manufacturing operations in the four states, ensuring a reliable and consistent supply of green power for commercial vehicle production.

Once operational, the project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 1.4 lakh tonnes annually, contributing substantially to Tata Motors’ efforts to lower its environmental footprint while improving energy security across its manufacturing network. The hybrid project combines wind and solar power generation, enabling better utilisation of renewable resources and improving power availability throughout the year. The integrated approach is expected to provide greater operational reliability compared to standalone renewable energy projects while supporting India’s transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable industrial ecosystem.

Commenting on the partnership, Vishal Badshah, Vice President – Operations, Tata Motors Limited, said the project reinforces the company’s commitment to building environmentally responsible manufacturing operations. He noted that the large-scale hybrid renewable energy project will help secure dependable green power for key production facilities while significantly reducing operational carbon emissions. He added that partnerships of this nature are essential for achieving Tata Motors’ RE100 commitment of sourcing 100 percent renewable electricity by 2030 and supporting its long-term net-zero emissions roadmap.

Kapil Maheshwari, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Welspun Renewable Energy Private Limited, described the collaboration as a significant milestone in the company’s renewable energy journey. He said the partnership demonstrates how large manufacturing companies can accelerate decarbonisation through integrated renewable energy solutions. He added that Welspun remains focused on developing resilient and future-ready clean energy infrastructure for both utility-scale and commercial and industrial consumers.

The project further strengthens Tata Motors’ sustainability strategy, which focuses on responsible manufacturing, improved energy efficiency and increased adoption of renewable power across its operations. It also aligns with India’s broader clean energy goals by supporting industrial decarbonisation and reducing dependence on conventional energy sources.

Part of the Tata Group, Tata Motors Limited is India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer with a comprehensive portfolio of trucks, buses, pick-ups and utility vehicles. The company has built a strong presence across domestic and international markets through continuous innovation, advanced mobility technologies and sustainable transportation solutions. Through investments in renewable energy and environmentally responsible manufacturing practices, Tata Motors continues to advance its vision of creating cleaner, more efficient and future-ready mobility solutions while contributing to India’s transition towards a low-carbon economy.
