Suzlon Group has strengthened its leadership position in India’s renewable energy sector after securing a major wind energy project from Sunsure Energy in Karnataka. With this development, Suzlon’s total orderbook in Karnataka has crossed the 2 GW milestone, reinforcing the state’s importance as one of India’s fastest-growing wind energy markets.

Under the agreement, Suzlon will install 65 advanced S144 wind turbine generators, each with a rated capacity of 3.0 MW, in the Bijapur district of Karnataka. The company will supply the turbines, execute project erection and commissioning activities, and provide comprehensive operations and maintenance services following project completion.

The project forms part of Sunsure Energy’s strategy to expand its round-the-clock renewable energy portfolio designed to support industrial decarbonisation, electric mobility and the growing energy requirements of data centres and emerging digital infrastructure. Suzlon is also executing additional commercial and industrial renewable projects in Karnataka with a combined capacity of 664 MW.

Girish Tanti, Executive Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, said India’s increasing focus on renewable energy, especially wind power, is playing a central role in building long-term energy security. He highlighted the success of Suzlon’s 3 MW platform, which has become a major growth driver for the company and contributed significantly to expanding its orderbook across Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.

According to Suzlon, Karnataka has emerged as the company’s largest market by orderbook volume, driven by rising demand from commercial and industrial customers seeking reliable renewable energy solutions capable of delivering round-the-clock power supply. Shashank Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of Sunsure Energy, said the next phase of clean energy infrastructure will depend on the ability to deliver dependable power when demand is highest rather than relying solely on intermittent generation sources. He added that the partnership with Suzlon supports Sunsure’s objective of developing scalable renewable energy solutions integrating wind, solar and battery storage technologies.

Ajay Kapur, Chief Executive Officer of Suzlon Group, stated that the company has already developed close to 300 MW of partnership projects with Sunsure Energy, reflecting strong confidence in Suzlon’s execution capabilities, technology platform and lifecycle operations support services.

Founded in 2014, Sunsure Energy is one of India’s leading renewable energy independent power producers focused on round-the-clock clean energy solutions. Backed by Partners Group AG, the company currently operates 700 MW of renewable assets while developing over 7 GW of projects across multiple Indian states, with a long-term target of achieving 10 GW operational capacity by 2030.

Suzlon Energy is one of India’s pioneering wind energy companies and a global leader in renewable energy solutions. With decades of expertise in designing, manufacturing, and installing wind turbines, Suzlon has contributed significantly to India’s clean energy capacity.

The company focuses on innovation, sustainability, and community development, offering end-to-end renewable energy solutions tailored to diverse terrains and climates.
