Stellantis has announced plans to bring electric vehicles from its Chinese joint venture partner, Leapmotor, to the Indian market. The move reflects Stellantis’ broader goal of expanding its EV portfolio in one of the world’s fastest-growing automotive regions.

In a statement released Friday, the company said that Leapmotor’s focus on clean mobility aligns with Stellantis’ long-term strategy to prioritize sustainability and innovation. While Stellantis has not confirmed a launch timeline for Leapmotor EVs in India, the decision marks a significant step toward strengthening its local footprint, which already includes the Jeep and Citroën brands.

“We are thrilled to bring Leapmotor to India as part of our continued commitment to this key market,” said Shailesh Hazela, CEO and Managing Director of Stellantis India. “With our deep understanding of the Indian automotive space, we see strong potential for premium electric vehicles tailored to the evolving needs of Indian consumers.”

Hazela noted that Leapmotor stands out globally for its emphasis on advanced technology, high build quality, and customer-focused design. The company plans to offer EVs in India that combine modern comfort with efficient, eco-friendly performance.

Last year, Stellantis had indicated it may leverage its existing manufacturing facilities in India to locally build Leapmotor EVs, a move that would help address the challenge of high import duties. As part of the brand’s regional expansion strategy, Leapmotor will first focus on Australia and New Zealand, with India next on the roadmap.

Stellantis N.V. (NYSE: STLA / Euronext Milan: STLAM / Euronext Paris: STLAP) ranks among the world’s top automakers, dedicated to delivering clean, safe, and accessible mobility solutions for everyone. The company is renowned for its diverse lineup of iconic and forward-thinking brands, including Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS Automobiles, FIAT, Jeep®, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram, Vauxhall, Free2move, and Leasys.

Guided by its Dare Forward 2030 strategy, Stellantis is charting an ambitious path to transform into a carbon net zero mobility technology company by 2038, with minimal emissions offsetting. This bold plan focuses on driving sustainable innovation while creating long-term value for customers, communities, and stakeholders across the globe.
