Snowbird Technologies will participate in the 30th edition of the multinational Rim of the Pacific Exercise, widely known as RIMPAC 2026, where the company will demonstrate advanced mobile manufacturing capabilities designed for demanding maritime and expeditionary environments. Scheduled from June 24 to July 31 around the Hawaiian Islands, RIMPAC 2026 will bring together military forces from 31 countries in one of the world’s largest international maritime exercises. The event is expected to involve approximately 40 surface ships, five submarines, 140 aircraft, and more than 25,000 personnel.
Snowbird Technologies will participate as part of the Naval Postgraduate School’s Consortium for Advanced Manufacturing Research and Education (CAMRE), which is leading a distributed advanced manufacturing initiative aimed at improving military readiness through rapid production capabilities. The program seeks to connect more than 50 advanced manufacturing nodes into an integrated network capable of producing mission-critical parts within days instead of months.
At the center of Snowbird’s participation is its patented SAMM Tech platform, short for Snowbird Additive Mobile Manufacturing Technology. The modular system combines metal additive manufacturing, plastic additive manufacturing, and CNC machining within a compact containerized unit designed for rapid deployment in field operations.
The company’s solution integrates technologies from leading industrial partners including Meltio, Slice Engineering, and FANUC to support expeditionary manufacturing and maintenance operations in remote environments. During the exercise, SAMM Tech will initially support operations while in transit from Naval Base San Diego to Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard before being deployed on-site throughout the duration of the multinational exercise.
Snowbird Technologies previously demonstrated the system during RIMPAC 2024, where it successfully carried out at-sea manufacturing aboard the USS Somerset. One of the key demonstrations involved producing and machining a replacement bushing for the vessel’s reverse osmosis generator in just 34 hours, significantly reducing potential downtime.
Building on that success, the company plans to expand the operational scope of SAMM Tech during the 2026 exercise to support both shipboard and shipyard-based manufacturing requirements. Karl Wojtkun said the platform’s integrated and containerized design enables rapid movement between maritime and land-based operations while supporting frontline sustainment requirements.
The participation has also been facilitated through CAMRE’s partnership intermediary agreement with FLEETWERX, which works to accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies for naval and joint force applications. According to Ethan Brown, RIMPAC provides a valuable operational setting to evaluate expeditionary manufacturing systems that can support part replacement, maintenance, and sustainment closer to deployed units. Hosted by the United States Pacific Fleet and led by the United States 3rd Fleet, RIMPAC 2026 will feature Chile as deputy commander and Japan as vice commander, further reinforcing multinational maritime cooperation and interoperability.
