SLB, a global energy technology company, has signed a 15-year agreement with TotalEnergies to deploy its DrillPlan™ coherent well planning and engineering solutions across the energy company’s global upstream operations. The agreement will support TotalEnergies’ transition to a digital planning environment that connects subsurface insights with well design, engineering and construction activities. The initiative aims to improve coordination between teams, standardise planning processes and provide a common foundation for engineering decisions across its operations.

SLB’s DrillPlan solutions will integrate key information used throughout the well construction process, including data from previously drilled wells, trajectory designs, casing and completion inputs, and engineering assumptions. Bringing these elements together will allow teams from different functions to work with consistent data and plans.

The deployment reflects a wider shift in the energy industry towards digital platforms that can be used across multiple operations and integrated with existing systems. Energy companies are increasingly adopting digital technologies to improve planning consistency, strengthen collaboration and streamline complex engineering workflows.

Rakesh Jaggi, President of SLB’s Digital business, said, “Operators are increasingly looking for scalable technologies that can support more consistent planning decisions across large and diverse portfolios. This agreement demonstrates how customers are moving toward digital solutions that improve consistency, strengthen collaboration and provide a foundation for future workflow innovation.”

The digital planning environment will draw on the technical expertise of both companies. It is designed to connect existing workflows, incorporate customised processes and support the wider adoption of new digital technologies as operational requirements evolve.

The agreement also builds on the long-standing relationship between SLB and TotalEnergies. It brings together TotalEnergies’ internal engineering knowledge and established processes with SLB’s experience in well construction and commercial digital solutions.

By integrating planning information into a shared digital environment, the companies aim to reduce inconsistencies between engineering activities and support better coordination during well design and preparation. The system is intended to provide a scalable framework that can accommodate different operating requirements across TotalEnergies’ global upstream portfolio.

SLB said the agreement reflects growing demand for digital platforms that combine specialised industry knowledge with interoperability and the ability to support operations at scale. The DrillPlan solutions form part of SLB’s broader digital technology portfolio, which supports well planning, engineering and construction workflows. The platform is designed to help operators connect technical information and planning activities within an integrated digital environment.

SLB is a global technology company with operations in more than 100 countries. Its business covers oil and gas technology, digital solutions, industrial decarbonisation and the development of new energy systems. The company has worked in energy technology for more than a century and continues to develop digital tools intended to improve operational performance and support changes across the energy sector. The 15-year agreement establishes a long-term framework for the deployment of DrillPlan solutions at TotalEnergies and supports continued cooperation between the companies in digital well planning and engineering.
