SK Minerals & Additives Ltd (BSE SME: 544584), a prominent player in the manufacturing and trading of specialty chemicals, has announced a groundbreaking achievement in product development. The company has become the first in India to successfully create a halogen-free flame retardant additive. This new product is designed to enhance the safety and sustainability of XLPE (Cross-Linked Polyethylene) wire production, catering specifically to wire and cable manufacturers. The halogen-free additive aims to reduce the environmental impact of cable production by replacing halogen-based compounds traditionally used for flame retardancy.

This breakthrough was announced at the Cable & Wire Fair 2025 in New Delhi. In a statement, Mohit Jindal, Chairman & Managing Director of SK Minerals & Additives Ltd, expressed pride in the company’s innovation: “Our relentless pursuit of excellence and commitment to sustainability has led us to create a product that meets rigorous international flame retardant standards while also contributing to a greener planet. This achievement marks a significant milestone for both SK Minerals and the Indian chemical and polymer additive sector.”

For years, the wire and cable industry has faced challenges in achieving flame retardancy without compromising the key properties of XLPE cables. Traditionally, this required the use of halogens, which release toxic gases when burned. The new Hofnil Halogen-Free Flame Retardant Additive (HFFR-XL) addresses these concerns, paving the way for a safer, more eco-friendly future in wire production both within India and internationally.

Currently, the company is in the process of obtaining industry certifications and preparing for a wider product launch. SK Minerals has already received a letter of intent from a leading integrated wire and cable manufacturer in India, indicating strong demand for its sustainable solution. The company projects revenue of over ₹200 crore from the new product by FY28.

Rohit Jindal, Director of SK Minerals & Additives, highlighted the company’s innovation, saying, “This product showcases our cutting-edge R&D capabilities and our global expertise in specialty chemicals. Our team of experts has worked tirelessly to perfect the formulation, ensuring it delivers optimal thermal stability, compatibility, and dispersion.”

SK Minerals & Additives recently made a successful debut on the BSE SME platform on October 17, 2025, raising ₹41.15 crore through its IPO, with shares listing at a premium of 14.17%. The company also secured a significant order from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) for ₹56.71 crore in technical-grade urea for supply to four of BPCL’s manufacturing plants across India.

Founded in Khanna, Punjab, SK Minerals & Additives specializes in the manufacturing and trading of a diverse range of specialty chemicals. The company’s extensive product portfolio includes chelated minerals (such as zinc, copper, and magnesium glycinates and EDTAs), mineral mixtures, magnesium oxide, technical-grade urea, virgin base oil, by-pass fat, and other chemicals. These products are vital in industries such as food and bakery, animal feed, petroleum, plywood, and more.
