Shree Refrigerations Limited (SRL), a leading Indian manufacturer of defence-grade refrigeration and HVAC systems, has strengthened its contribution to the country’s naval capabilities by supplying mission-critical Marine Air-Conditioning Plants for INS Dunagiri and INS Agray, two of the three warships recently commissioned into the Indian Navy. The induction ceremony, held at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) in Kolkata, witnessed the commissioning of INS Dunagiri, INS Agray and INS Sandhayak. The event marked a significant milestone for the Indian Navy, with the ships formally inducted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of India’s continuing efforts to enhance maritime defence capabilities through indigenous technologies.
The marine air-conditioning systems supplied by Shree Refrigerations have successfully completed stringent type testing and have been commissioned for operational deployment aboard INS Dunagiri and INS Agray. Designed to meet the demanding requirements of naval platforms, the systems are engineered to provide reliable environmental control under challenging maritime conditions while supporting the operational readiness of mission-critical equipment and personnel.
Commenting on the achievement, RG Shende, Chairman and Managing Director of Shree Refrigerations Limited, said the simultaneous commissioning of three naval platforms is a rare event in the history of the Indian Navy and reflects the country’s growing defence manufacturing capabilities. He noted that this is the second such occasion following the commissioning of INS Nilgiri, INS Surat and INS Vaghsheer in January 2025, where the company had also supplied marine air-conditioning plants for two of the three vessels, namely INS Nilgiri and INS Vaghsheer.
Mr Shende said the continued selection of the company’s indigenous HVAC solutions for frontline naval platforms demonstrates the confidence placed in Indian manufacturers to deliver sophisticated, mission-critical technologies that meet the rigorous standards of the armed forces. He added that the accomplishment aligns with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative by promoting self-reliance in defence manufacturing and reducing dependence on imported technologies.
The company recently expanded its manufacturing capabilities with the inauguration of a new 50,000-square-foot production facility. The additional capacity is expected to more than double output and strengthen the company’s ability to support future defence programmes through enhanced manufacturing efficiency, technological innovation and faster project execution.
With nearly three and a half decades of experience in refrigeration engineering, Shree Refrigerations has established itself as a trusted supplier of advanced HVAC and refrigeration systems for defence and strategic applications. Since entering the defence sector less than a decade ago, the company has steadily expanded its presence by developing indigenous technologies tailored to the requirements of the Indian Navy and other strategic organisations.
Backed by strong execution capabilities and sustained business growth, Shree Refrigerations continues to reinforce its position as a key contributor to India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem while delivering world-class engineering solutions designed and manufactured in the country.
