SEW-EURODRIVE is presenting its latest planetary gear unit technologies designed specifically for the demanding conditions of sugar production, with a focus on applications in Brazil. As the global leader in sugarcane cultivation, Brazil provides an ideal backdrop for demonstrating high-performance drive systems tailored to continuous industrial operations.

Sugarcane mills play a crucial role in extracting raw juice from plant fibers through heavy-duty crushing systems. These installations operate around the clock during harvest season and rely on multiple stages of high-pressure rollers. The mechanical demands are substantial, with torque levels reaching up to 3,300 kNm per roller and operating power nearing 3,000 kW. In addition, systems must withstand sudden shocks caused by impurities such as stones or dense fibers.

To address these challenges, SEW-EURODRIVE has developed the XP series planetary gear units, engineered for extreme load conditions. Featuring a torque range from 600 to 9,000 kNm, the XP series ensures even distribution of input forces across multiple planetary gears. This configuration enhances torque density while enabling a more compact and lightweight design compared to conventional gear systems. The result is improved durability and reliable continuous operation, even in confined installation environments.

Complementing this range, the PPK series offers efficient solutions for lower torque requirements starting from 2.3 kNm. These units deliver significant advantages in size, weight, and resource consumption. For example, compared to traditional gear units, PPK models require substantially less lubricant—reducing maintenance needs and operational costs while supporting environmentally conscious operations.

Both gear series incorporate advanced thermal management systems to handle high energy output, including integrated cooling solutions and monitoring sensors for temperature and pressure. This ensures optimal performance and process stability across demanding industrial settings.

With a legacy dating back to 1931, SEW-EURODRIVE has grown into a global leader in drive and automation technology, employing over 22,000 people across 57 countries. Its strong presence in Brazil—established in 1978—continues to support key industries such as sugar and ethanol production, mining, and automotive manufacturing. By delivering compact, efficient, and robust drive solutions, SEW-EURODRIVE reinforces its commitment to advancing industrial productivity and sustainability worldwide.
