Schaeffler has entered into a strategic partnership with VinDynamics, the Vietnamese humanoid robotics company within Vingroup, to support the next phase of humanoid robot development. The collaboration will focus on the design and supply of planetary gearboxes, a critical component used in robotic actuators that enable movement in joints and limbs.

The agreement marks Schaeffler’s first partnership with a humanoid robot manufacturer in the Asia-Pacific region. It also expands the company’s global network of robotics partnerships across Europe, China and the United States, strengthening its position in the rapidly developing human robotics market.

Planetary gearboxes play an important role in actuator systems, functioning as the mechanical core that allows robots to move with precision, efficiency and controlled force. These systems are essential for creating motion that closely replicates human movement in advanced robotic applications.

Under the partnership, Schaeffler and VinDynamics will also jointly gather robot and application performance data. The information will be used to improve actuator design, enhance system efficiency and support the development of future digital services such as predictive maintenance and condition monitoring.

Maximilian Fiedler, Regional CEO Asia-Pacific at Schaeffler AG, said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to innovation and collaboration with technology pioneers. He noted that VinDynamics brings a clear vision and strong capabilities in next-generation robotics, while Schaeffler contributes decades of expertise in actuator and drive systems. He added that the collaboration is expected to accelerate technological progress and influence how humanoid robots are deployed in the future.

La Manh Hung, President of VinDynamics, said the company is proud to partner with Schaeffler, recognised globally for engineering excellence and advanced motion technologies. He stated that the partnership represents a strong alignment of strategy and long-term vision, with both organisations focused on shaping the future of humanoid robotics. He added that combining the strengths of the two companies will help speed the transition of humanoid robots from research environments to real-world industrial and consumer applications.

Schaeffler said it is well positioned to support this emerging sector through its extensive experience in motion technology and its high level of in-house manufacturing capability. The company is drawing on proven expertise across eight product families to adapt advanced technologies for robotic use.

Its portfolio for humanoid robotics includes compact, high-precision planetary gearboxes known for high torque density, strong efficiency and space-saving design. Integrated into robotic actuator systems, these components enable smooth, powerful and energy-efficient movement in joints.

The partnership highlights growing momentum in humanoid robotics, where demand is increasing for technologies that improve mobility, durability and intelligence. With this alliance, Schaeffler and VinDynamics aim to contribute to the commercialisation of humanoid robots across industries ranging from manufacturing and logistics to healthcare and daily assistance.
