SANY Group has expanded its intelligent equipment portfolio with a new generation of electric, autonomous, and AI-enabled solutions, marking a major step in the transformation of the global construction and mining equipment industry. The company recently rolled out its 1,000th electric excavator while simultaneously advancing commercial deployment of remote-controlled machinery, unmanned construction fleets, and integrated smart mining and port solutions.
With annual research and development investments exceeding RMB 6 billion, SANY is intensifying its transition from a traditional heavy equipment manufacturer into a robotics-focused and artificial intelligence-driven industrial technology company. The company stated that the next phase of equipment modernization extends beyond alternative powertrains and focuses equally on intelligent operations, automation, and digitally connected construction ecosystems.
SANY’s latest innovations are designed to address critical industry priorities including lower emissions, higher operating efficiency, reduced fuel consumption, improved safety, and better productivity across infrastructure, mining, and industrial applications. Among the company’s most significant developments is the commercial rollout of the SY550HD, a 5G-enabled remote-controlled excavator engineered for hazardous and demanding operating environments.
The machine combines ultra-low latency communication, intelligent sensing systems, and AI-assisted operational controls to enable real-time remote operations across long distances. According to SANY, the system achieves latency performance between 120 and 140 milliseconds through the integration of advanced 5G networks and AI-based communication optimization technologies.
The excavator can be operated remotely from distances of up to 8,500 kilometers while supporting public, private, and hybrid network environments for flexible deployment across industrial sites and geographic regions. The company emphasized that remote operation technologies are increasingly important for improving worker safety by reducing human exposure to dangerous construction, mining, and industrial environments.
Traditional heavy equipment operations often require personnel to work in high-risk locations exposed to unstable terrain, hazardous materials, extreme temperatures, and difficult weather conditions. SANY stated that earlier generations of remote-control systems faced limitations related to unstable connectivity, poor responsiveness, and limited operational precision, restricting large-scale commercial adoption.
The SY550HD has been developed to overcome these challenges through integrated AI-enabled perception systems and advanced three-dimensional sensing capabilities. The machine incorporates proprietary motion sensing and depth recognition technologies alongside intelligent loading assistance systems designed to recreate on-site operating visibility for remote operators.
These capabilities allow operators to perform high-precision movements and maintain accurate situational awareness even in complex environments such as mines, remote infrastructure projects, emergency response operations, and large-scale industrial sites. SANY also highlighted the excavator’s intelligent safety systems, which combine AI algorithms, live video monitoring, and multi-dimensional sensors to support personnel detection, collision prevention, and equipment health diagnostics.
The company stated that the system continuously collects point-cloud data and operational information to improve environmental sensing, task adaptation, and risk identification in real time. Beyond remote-controlled excavators, SANY has also deployed unmanned paving and roller fleets as well as integrated intelligent systems for ports and mining operations.
The company indicated that future investments will focus on electric powertrain technologies, autonomous construction systems, AI-assisted equipment operation, digital industrial platforms, and integrated smart mining equipment. SANY added that it aims to accelerate large-scale commercial deployment of intelligent industrial equipment while expanding its global presence in electrified and digitally connected heavy machinery markets.
